Continuing my trend of living under a rock, I just found out there's a Nextcloud plugin that replicates gpodder.net for syncing podcast playback. It works with AntennaPod too (among others).
The death date of #GooglePodcast is getting nearer, the implementation of podcasts in Youtube Music is surprisingly bad (I don't want them mixed with my music library, as they are completely different). So, what would be good alternative (preferable no extra login requirement) for podcasts in #android? Something I can live with, until returning to iPhone and iTunes (not an option at the moment) at some point in the future.
I've been using :AntennaPod: @AntennaPod for some years now and It's truly a legend in podcast world, but it suffers from one single and very tiny UI design flaw (which is understandable in such FLOSS and volunteer-based projects): some buttons are virtually hidden unless you know where to look for them.
One of the features that many podcast apps have is the ability to archive podcasts (i.e out of sight, out of mind, but keep my stats and progress).
Can't remember who it was on here who recommended #Radiolab podcast to me, but once again, thankyou 🙏!
This piece on the old-new or perhaps new-old fight against antibiotic resistance is awesome.
does anyone else have an issue with @AntennaPod
on @GrapheneOS (Pixel 6a)? AP is constantly stopping (crashing?) after some time (once it's 30 minutes, once it's 5 minutes). It doesn't matter what podcast this is, playback speed, I have no other idea (maybe I've got too long queue? ~350 episodes, 14 GB in total)
Actually kind of pissed off about this. This is like the third time this has happened, but it hasn't happened in a long time. I used to keep a backup opml file just in case, but I shouldn't have to because HOW THE FUCK does an entire directory full of stuff just disappear. This is the only application that has ever done this to me. What are you doing #AntennaPod?
I would love to see open podcast projects such as @AntennaPod and @kasts integrate with a FOSS, decentralized protocol like ActivityPub for efficient podcast syncing between platforms. Does such a thing exist now?
@beunice@AntennaPod We're already working on this. Both #AntennaPod and #Kasts are involved in openpodcastapi.org together with other projects like #FunkWhale It's still in the process of specification at the moment.
I work on proprietary software since 2 months, let me tell you: you have no idea how FLOSS code is clean and lean, how well FLOSS projects are organized.
A day after the Journal reports that Musk is loopy under verious influences, the editorial page praises him for going after the administrative (read: deep) state.
"If you are streaming an episode instead of downloading, the hosting company has an idea of how far you are in the podcast. It might be possible that the company detects the fact that you skipped the ad and insert a new one."
All these services now doing "Your 2023 year in X" and be like: look how much information we're collecting on you and you still keep using us!
what a loser!
reddit, for example, only showed me the exaggerated amount of time I wasted in this stupid app.
I saw the year recap and deleted the app.
now very rarely I open it in the browser.
AntennaPod, on the other hand, was like "dude, 27 hours this entire year? you can do better"
and I really can. gonna listen to podcasts more, instead of redditing.
@AntennaPod surprised me with this cool feature today!
I think Spotify had a similar feature for the songs you listen to, but I haven't been on Spotify for a long time so I don't know what it's called now. But it's cool to see this on a FOSS podcast app like #AntennaPod, and the amazing thing is that they generate it locally on your device so it's privacy friendly 🙂
I feel like the statistics is a bit skewed here because I've put some podcasts under a custom tag named "Bookmarks" and excluded them from my inbox, I certainly can't listen to 48 podcasts at once, lol 😂
If the #AntennaPod team is reading this, having a default built-in bookmarking feature in the app would be useful because sometimes you wanna keep an eye on some podcasts without actually subscribing to them and having all their episodes show up on your inbox. Just a suggestion 🙂
TBH I've probably used AntennaPod for a bit longer because I've my switched phone once and started fresh. But yeah I've never really had any reason to change the app since then, this has always been my favorite FOSS podcast app 🙂 Thanks to the #AntennaPod team and all the wonderful people contributing to this project! :ablobcatheartsqueeze:
