Building a phone OS takes thousands of pieces needing to fit together. One of those is handling cell-broadcast, where a celltower can push a message to all phones within range.
Ubuntu Touch has its cell-stack based on Ofono. CB was already built into Ofono but there was still quite some work to enable it in the OS.
Next week, the UT devs are hoping to pick up the german national warning test-message for the first time, adding yet another piece of the puzzle! #ubuntutouch#linux#privacy#bbk
Think that having only 2 phone OS options is a very unhealthy situation?
Ever thought of switching to an open OS, getting away from data guzzling Google/Apple, now's a perfect time to try out Ubuntu Touch.
Running on top of the fully maintained UbuntuOS, Lomiri UI activily being improved all the time.
Today's devel-branch update from @fredldotme boosting app-startup time significantly.
The Pixel3a is one of the best supported phones atm. Get it second hand and try it! #privacy#UbuntuTouch
Ok, looking for ideas here. I have a Redmi Note 7 as a tinkertoy. It currently runs PixelExperience ROM. But i wanted to install #UbuntuTouch again (Had it on there before). The device should be supported by the installer: https://devices.ubuntu-touch.io/device/lavender/
But it keeps getting stuck on "Cleaning up, Formatting system Partition". The Phone shows FASTBOOT screen. I let it run overnight, nothing changed. Is there a manual way to install UT on this phone with a premade ZIP? I tried adb/fastboot installing droidian which worked.. but now doesnt. I dont feel confident to manually build the image, but does someone has any tips?
I'm really pleasantly surprised by the #dev tools available on #android phone.
My initial thought was to install #linux on my phone, but there isn't any good option yet - #ubuntuTouch is still beta, plus it's not recommended for most android phone models.
Anyway, I came across the possibility of using #termux app to install few useful things.
Recently, while on holidays, I exposed my beloved #banglejs2 to sea water, and while I managed to get it working again, the units of battery life are now days instead of weeks.
I have my old #PebbleTimeSteel around, which still works. But: You need an app to set the time. Thus, I embarked on a mission to bring #RockWork to #UbuntuTouch 20.04, found an attempt by someone else and did some more renaming ... it builds and launches, but rockworkd does not get started yet
We are very happy to release of Ubuntu Touch OTA-2 Focal. This second stable release based on Ubuntu 20.04 brings improvements and three new devices, full details can be found in the OTA-2 blog.
