"This work shows that a #decentralized approach to #moderation can lead to higher content reliability on #socialmedia. This approach is also more efficient and scalable than centralized moderation schemes, and may appeal to users who mistrust #platforms.
“A lot of research into #misinformation assumes that users can’t decide what is true and what is not, and so we have to help them. We didn’t see that at all."
Other #NBC & #MSNBC hosts & contributors will undoubtedly now be under pressure to speak their minds as well. MSNBC’s prime-time lineup today will be worth watching.
The on-air #protests may be a seminal moment in #PoliticalMedia as #news orgs continue to grapple w/how to responsibly represent voices from the #Trump#RightWing on their screens & in their pages w/o handing their #platforms over to #ElectionDeniers or #BadFaith actors who have attacked & attempted to discredit their own reporters.
When streaming services came out, I was happy to be rid of my Dvds. As a minimalist by nature I just didn't like things cluttering up my space. But now? I want them back, especially seeing how little control I have with keeping my favourite films and TV shows. I am kinda glad that I never got to getting rid of allll my favourite shows, but now I have to buy a region-free dvd player as they seem like a rare thing now lol.
"A complex system that works is invariably found to have evolved from a simple system that worked. A complex system designed from scratch never works and cannot be patched up to make it work. You have to start over, beginning with a working simple system." -- #JohnGall
«My worry is that everyone benefits from favorable mis- or disinformation to varying degrees: our citizens are amused by such content, our political leaders may campaign with it, and the media garners traffic by covering sensationalist examples. The existing incentive structures will make misinformation hard to eliminate.» https://www.technologyreview.com/2023/12/15/1085441/eric-schmidt-plan-for-fighting-election-misinformation/
"I think the defining economic reality of the modern platform media world is that all the platforms realized that an infinite supply of teenage creators are cheaper to deal with than media companies or groups of media individuals or powerful creators."
First was an amazing panel on digital markets and internet governance with @lilianedwards, @1br0wn, and Chris Marsden. The discussion goes into the history of tech and internet law, its triumphs and failures over the years, and the most pressing challenges in the area today, all with refreshing perspective on the current AI hype. Highly recommend https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=bMBXbI1-imw (2/9) #law#platforms#tech#AI
Today was pretty hectic, and while I was more enticed by this sign than repelled, I did successfully resist the urge to investigate with some help from talks for my #AcademicRunPlaylist!
