Don’t like your own kid going to a play?

Great. Keep them home while the rest of the kids go. It’s the same problem over and over- people who don’t know what they’re talking about insisting their thoughts are more important than others’ rights and making sure no one can do the thing they object to.

Houston-area schools scrap field trips to see ‘James and the Giant Peach’ over concerns about cross-gender casting at Main Street Theater-

SharonGibson3,

@TonyStark A picture of Michelangelo's David, pearl-clutching book titles, and now this. I'm sick and tired of reading about ignorant, small-minded people who get to hold sway over everyone else.

Libraries are an important public/civic amenity.

Right now, individuals ages 13-21 can apply for a free Brooklyn Public Library (BPL) eCard, gaining access to BPL's eBook collection and learning databases.

It's a great #opportunity!

To apply, email:
booksunbanned@bklynlibrary.org

Update. Kudos to #Illinois for legislating in the opposite direction — to ban book bans.
https://bookriot.com/illinois-to-become-first-state-to-ban-book-bans/

Public and school #libraries are only eligible for state funding if they “adopt the American Library Association’s Library Bill of Rights” or “develop a written statement prohibiting the practice of banning books or other materials within the library or library system.“

FYI, here's the #ALA Library Bill of Rights.

Hello, Fediverse! Here's our post:

The Media History Digital Library (MHDL) is a free online resource, featuring millions of pages from the histories of , , and . We provide access to industry trade papers, magazines, Hollywood pressbooks, technical journals, and more.

Lantern, the MHDL's full-text search platform, enables researchers to query specific words or phrases within scanned pages.

We hope the MHDL has had a transformative impact on the study of film & broadcasting history. The sources we have digitized for open access, and the large-scale queries that our platforms allow, have enabled ambitious research projects and the production of new knowledge.

We look forward to sharing interesting content from our collection and learning about projects that use the MHDL.

IF YOU'RE IN #INDIANA DO A THING, outlined here:

I mean, this is great for those of us already using them, but I think it may be huge for #book #publishing as a whole. Link down the thread:

Hi archivist and librarian friends! Got a question.

Years ago, my public library had little shelves made out of what seemed to be phase box materials. High quality, durable, light.

Any idea what these may be called?

We lost our A/V shelving and now our DVDs are on regular book shelving units. They look untidy as hell. A sister branch painted some 2x4s to fix this problem for them, but our manager is worried they'd be used as weapons at our branch.

Hence the lightweight, yet durable things I'm asking about. Knowing their name might make it easier to get purchased.

If you have other ideas too, I'm all ears.

Thanks
