Because I spent so much of my youth just playing Pokemon whenever I wanted to mess around with my Gameboy and never had any generation of handheld after that, I missed sooo many games that came out for them. What are some of your favorite games that came out for #gameboy#gameboycolor and #gameboyadvance that I should check out, I've seen so few videos or anything compared to any other systems that I'm kind of flying blind. #retrogaming
Deceptively simple, but very clever in how it balances randomness with being able to deduce gameplay mechanics over time, Jeff Lait's POWDER is to me the perfect #roguelike . I've been playing it off and on for well over a decade, and takes a signature "dying is fun" attitude, where a single run could last minutes (I've only beaten it three times). So much re-playability!
Although the source has always been available online, originally it was written with #gameboyadvance in mind. Mega Cat Studios did a limited run several years ago, on board using coin battery saves, and 64k SRAM. It runs a little clunky (and coin battery saves are always a ticking time bomb), so I thought I'd try re-purposing some old, cheap knock off boards I've accrued over the years. I ended flashing the game onto a board with 128k SRAM and that uses a batteryless save. Surprisingly it turned out to run the game perfectly, and unlike most games when trying to run on knock-offs, I could even use my GBAccelerator to clock the game (run the game loop faster, which for a turn-based game just means much more responsive controls).
Finally I designed the cartridge sticker using artwork from gameplay. I got it custom printed and put it in a shell--the back an 'adventures of link' colored gold, and the front a Famicom red.
I'm kinda craving to play #GameBoy Advance games on real hardware. It doesn't have to be *genuine *hardware, but real hardware without emulation. Is there any way to achieve that without buying one of the incredibly expensive used units?
I've a question about modern "homebrew" games made for old consoles:
Why is the original Gameboy such a popular target? Itch lists a whopping 6406 games tagged as targeting Gameboy. The second-most popular old console is the NES, with only 1848 games on Itch: less than a third as many as the Gameboy. The Gameboy Advance sits at only 450 games on Itch.
So, I finished The Legend of #Zelda - A Link to the Past on #snes !
You know all those people that are obsessed with Zelda games? Well, they're right, it is awesome. But don't even try to tackle this game without help: it is huge and so rich in lore.
Now I feel the itch to continue the universe. I'll recover a bit and most probably jump in to the Minish Cap on #GameBoyAdvance.
I have way too many games to ever play, but still I can't help it. Today's haul: Othello (NES), Spinball (Vectrex), Colossal Cave Adventure (PS5), Broken Sword: The Shadow of the Templars (GBA). Read on for more details
Finally finished my SNES GBA cart I've been sitting in since October of 2020. It's designed after the USA SNES cart and uses the same labels if you use locked scalling and set the width to 37.5mm. I've released the freecad and step files for this one you can can make changes where you see fit. https://www.printables.com/model/666934-snes-gba-cart-usa #gameboyadvance#snes#3dprinting
As soon as Shantae Adbance was announced, I wanted to do fanart of my favorite video game character. I was also making this at a time when I was drained when it came to art and IRL. But drawing this really helped me get my groove back.
I went with a big pop-py theme, slightly inspired by Dragalia Lost while trying to keep the excitement I felt for this game's announcement. Replicating the style scene on the promo material was a lot of fun too! I did have plans for including sprites of the characters, but I did not have the passion to add it in. But I really enjoyed working on this a lot. #MastoArt#Shantae#ShantaeAdvance#Magic#Fire#GameBoyAdvance#IndieGame#art#art2024#digitalart#digitalartwork#artwork#CentaurWorks#fanart#anime#animestyle#animeartstyle#clipstudiospaint
I won a yellow VHS copy of the Pokémon: The First Movie on a #Whatnot stream givy last night, along with getting a CIB copy of GTA for the PS1, #StreetFighter II for the #SNES, and a fuchsia pink #GameboyAdvance for a really good price with a free Power Rangers cart last night! It's a really fun combo of eBay and Twitch.
Deadly Skies (aka Airforce Delta Storm) takes the air combat action you'd expect from its console counterparts, and squeezes it into your GBA in such a way as to keep the high flying thrills intact.

After the "Castlevania" areas of the Fiendlord's castle in Chrono Trigger (https://mastodon.social/@GamesMissed/111304490109151554), I've had it in my head to play an actual Castlevania game. I haven't played Circle of the Moon since it came out over 20 years ago, so it seemed a good place to start again.
I own a #GameBoyAdvance (and an SP) but I'm playing it on my #3DS because a) I'm lazy, b) it has the largest, brightest screen of all my Nintendo portables, and c) why not? This is what #jailbreaking is for.
