Tabbed section with trending, popular, new and updated apps
This has been almost a year in the making, including tons of work on documentation, backend, frontend, and the actual metadata in apps. Special thanks to @razze and @tbernard!
Quick #flathub/#flatpak question regarding AppStream Metadata - what's the correct way to handle screenshots for apps that are inherently multi-window like Multiplex? In the long run I want to embed MPV, but that will be a while out still. I've tried to improve the old screenshots by green-screening the background and using the GNOME shadows, but I still can't pass the "resonable window size", "just the app window" etc. requirements ...
You may have noticed something different when you share links to apps on Flathub 👀
Every app now gets a dynamically generated “meta image” for sharing on social media, in messaging apps, etc. Give it a try the next time you share a link to your favorite app!
And as an appropriate demo, check out this app that lets you preview how a link will show up on social media before you actually share it:
Developers, to get more control over how your app shows up when shared on social media and ensure it looks its best, be sure to follow the MetaInfo Quality Guidelines!
These guidelines are designed specifically to help ensure your app can be shown in its best light across Flathub and native app stores, whether when featured on the upcoming homepage redesign or in social posts like this.
Firefox 124.0.2 was released 11 days ago. Librewolf got bumped the day after and yet the flathub version is still on 124.0.1.
I'm seriously starting to consider moving away from the atomic (immutable) desktop so i can install release and beta versions of the browsers i alternate between and not have to rely on forks 😄
To make it more interesting we're setting a deadline! We will be launching the new banners on April 20th, so for the possibility to be featured during the first week, update your apps today :)
To stay properly updated and keep any unnecessary surprise out of the equation, #Beeper better have their #flatpak published (on #Flathub)! Sorry, but AppImage isn't enough.
I think @flathub should implement an official way for apps to indicate if they're using offline and/or online AI/LLM features, and require all apps using such to disclose which type. This should be displayed prominently, like the verified/unverified badge or the "potentially unsafe" or "community built" thingies.
Also Gnome Software.
I don't want to install and run the app before finding I can't use it b/c it's sending my data to the most evil corps in the world
Big thank you to @dogphilosopher for an update to flatpaks on Bluefin. Now flatpaks can be preinstalled from the ISO rather than having to download them on first boot in order to provide the intended experience. That means @thunderbird on the dock by default!
Awesome step forward for us to be able to bring you intended apps by default without straying from @flathub
Can we just gush a little about #gimp - particularly the one situated in the #flathub#flatpak beta repo.
This whole window is unintrusive. The title and window controls are just sort of there, at the top of the window. A standard titlebar, toolbar in a single column to the left, and on the right grouping toolkit dialogues on the top and project management dialogues on the bottom, all surrounding the canvas.
It's more cohesive, more compact, and gives focus to the actual image itself... one sec
