Radicle is an open source, peer-to-peer code collaboration stack alternative to GitHub
It leverages Git’s architecture combined with cryptography and a gossip protocol to enable a fully sovereign developer network. All social artifacts are stored in Git, and signed using public-key cryptography. Radicle verifies the authenticity and a ...continues
I'm looking again at static website builders now that Safe Network is happening (beta this month, launch in October).
I was set up to deploy my #dWeb blog simultaneously to web and Safe Network using #ReactStatic but sadly that is no longer maintained (but still works).
So I'm working on one using my favourite #Svelte. Also trying #Publii, a WYSIWYG site editor which looks interesting. Not the best UX but could help a lot of folks get online, on web and the #decentralised#p2p#SafeNetwork.
I’m probably the last person to hear about it but I just stumbled on #Funkwhale in my search for a #Spotify alternative.
It’s #foss, #decentralised, and #federated! You can share #music by joinings pods or starting your own. Now I’ve only just discovered it but this feels like a much more #community driven listening experience than what we’re use to these days. Kind of like sharing your walkman earphones at recess with friends.
Mbin is a fork of kbin: a decentralized content aggregator running on the Fediverse network
Mbin is a decentralized content aggregator, voting, discussion and microblogging platform running on the fediverse network. It can communicate with many other ActivityPub services, including Kbin, Mastodon, Lemmy, Pleroma, Peertube. It is an open source alter ...continues
#CRTC are a bunch of amateur clowns on the take. They give off an illusion they are fighting for the consumer, but are actual paid proxy for the #telco scammers.
Take a look at #global#mesh#networkmeshtastic.org. It is a #foss#decentralised#encrypted global mesh network that is seriously gaining momentum.
If there is a #SHTF event (i.e. anarchy, natural disaster) that wipes out the cellular network, meshtastic network will still work using #LoRa device nodes spread across the globe.
Jami: A Versatile Cross-platform Open-Source Peer-to-Peer Decentralized Communication App
I can’t believe I last did a proper post about Jami as far back as 2019 last. I mention it a lot, and it was included run a debate today on my Friendica site, but I realised it does deserve a proper feature post of its own.
New NGI pilot: Local4Local
The 2.5M€ (1.8M€ EU funding) project will pilot NGI technologies to support the local economy, sustainable initiatives and strengthening local ties in local areas through local currencies, based on a decentralised infrastructure.
Consortium is led by Centric (NL) with a consortium including University of Aix Marseille, Technological University of Kaunas and Technological University of Delft. #localeconomy#localcurrencies#decentralised#sustainability#opensource
The #Decentralised#Fediverse session at #NGI2023 was a missed opportunity. This was a chance to discuss why decentralised socmed is essential going forward - digital sovereignty alone would seem to demand that. Unhooking govt, educational, major industry etc from platform monopolies is a no brainer, single users will follow. Getting wrapped up in who will pay for coders is tbh a small problem, solve the big problem of deplatforming and youll solve other issues. #academicmastodon#activitypub
Well, it was bound to happen some time. After a run of successes, the RoyaltiesPaymentNet was cursed by high memory usage which killed off many nodes before they could even start, and left the rest pretty much zombified. The spooky thing is it all worked fine on our internal testnets (albeit with some slightly raised memory...
1/4 In the mid 90s through to early 2000s, I ran an #indie#netlabel, sold tapes, cds & even had streaming downloads (Realplayer!). In those early web days, I was generally laughed at to try to do such a thing (then again, people still laugh at me, but that's another matter). Later on, I ran a full e-commerce #music downloads site at a slightly larger scale but still very much #indie. I've been gradually working towards doing it all again recently, bearing in mind the lessons I've learned.
4/4 It's a huge conversation, and I probably should have written this in a longer form essay - it's hard not to make sweeping statements that are open to misinterpretation in small posts. Still, I'd like to make it clear that I fully support any #decentralised#indie project that's responding to the #Bandcamp situation. A healthy ecosystem is one that is composed of a large variety of smaller cultures - not ruled by a single monoculture. Vive la différence!
My ideal #decentralised#Bandcamp alternative would be something like a combination of (I) #Faircamp as a frontend, (II) #Funkwhale as an #Activitypub audio file sharing & profile-following for the backend, and (III) something like #Liberapay or #Comradery to buy albums & financially support musicians.
What with the no-doubt immanent enshittification of #bandcamp I'd like to direct people's attention to projects like #Faircamp by @freebliss and #Funkwhale@funkwhale. While not a drop-in replacements for BC as of yet, I think these are an excellent starting points for an #ethical, #decentralised & healthy #music community.
Yep, #Bandcamp is being Mooged. Exactly why I've been advocating an #independent & #decentralised alternative since the moment #Epic bought it. There has NEVER been an instance of a megacorp buying an ethical indie and not enshittifying it.
#OrganicMaps is here. Use it while offline and feel good about a #privacy-respecting app that doesn't suck you dry of your personal information. Based on #OpenStreetMap this app is gonna blow #Google#Maps out of the water (hopefully ;)
Do you delete your devices often, like everyday? Dehydrated devices allow to keep receiving encrypted messages in a decentralised network with virtual devices.
Another X user “super pissed” that Musk ordered takeover of his account: There are only a few networks where you actually own your identity
Actually, with most server based social networks your identity is linked to theirs, and their admin has final control over everything i.e. whether your account stays up, whether you can use a specific identity on their platform, what you are allowed to post f ...continues
I love how I can scroll through Mastodon without seeing any ads or promoted posts. It's so refreshing to be able to see what my friends and followers are up to without being interrupted by all the marketing crap.
I know some people think that ads are a necessary evil, but I don't. I think we should be able to use social media platforms without being constantly bombarded by ads.
So thanks, Mastodon, for being a place to connect with my peeps without having to worry about ads. I appreciate it.
Hear hear. I think 'evil' is perhaps a step on the road to hyperbole, but if we might stick to the (OK, only marginally more objective) #economics of #decentralised#SocialMedia , the users externalise their costs, unless they're making it worth the provider's expense. (Thanks @ColinTheMathmo !)
I'd love to know if it was possible to throw context dependent #advertising up alongside a #kbin instance to fund its operation, as I don't think most users are ready to pay for social media, but I wouldn't wish to fund it by mining their data and selling it.
