@chris ROFL OMG this is crazy, I can't begin to imagine the shitstorm that is happening within Google right now due to this bold ass employee going rogue. It's a reminder to keep Google out of our personal lives by not having an account with them if possible or use their search engine.
If you are trying to #degoogle your life, be aware that one of the unpleasant side effects is that a shit ton of people will not be able to receive #email from you. I've been on an email address handled by my shared server provider for like 15 years now, and I can attest that #google and #yahoo are both pretty bad for blocking anything from a #domain outside the big providers.
@max Good question. I've been using this hosting place since college. I didn't even touch a setting until recently to activate one of those disguised as some kind of domain validation.
I freely admit that I know fuck all about email.
But I don't think it should really be that hard. The "big guys" should be able to detect good mail. And the "small guys" should be able to accept email not originating from the "big guys". Security through whitelist, I guess lol. :big_brain:
@maccath@dmakovec We also provide an official Proton Mail onion site for use with the Tor network for those seeking anonymity.
It’s also important to differentiate that VPN is not classified as a communication tool in Switzerland — Proton VPN does not log IPs and there are no existing Swiss laws that can compel us to do so.
I am nearly ready to delete my Google Account. The 1 thing taking forever is changing my e-mail address on all my many accounts.
Google's new Terms of Service, you agree Google AI may access all your content (email, photos, etc.). While they do not claim ownership of your content, you agree they can use it.
@Linux Which email service(s) can you recommend, that don't result in messages finding their way into spam, because they don't have secret 'trust only gmail' flag?
@Linux curious, what are you using for videos by creators? Peertube only? I want to degoogle one day too but, that one makes it hard since peertube claims to not be a replacement. Plus my tiny following would be gone 😪

I somewhat recently started using OsmAnd - for me the useful features were GPX recording + built-in uploading to OSM, and displaying addr:flats.
The #deGoogle project continues. This week I want to get off #GooglePhotos. Looking for a secure photo storage service with Android support that won't sell my data to an AI.
I tried out #grapheneos for a week on a Pixel 4 I got for a few burritos from some guy down the corner. I was delighted by it. I have now switched wholeheartedly to this operating system. Unfortunately, that means I had to buy a G--gle Pixel phone, and that I did. I flashed Graphene first thing and am content.
After working through the last few Apple hurdles today (cancelled my Apple Card, and reassociated the HomePods to my spouses iOS device), I finally wiped my old iPhone clean. Apple made it SOO difficult. Thus its very cathartic!
Migrating to GrapheneOS has been an incredible experience. A few hurdles sure, but nothing that couldn't be worked out.
Been a long, steady project but after two years I've finally de-appled myself to go open source.
