@maccath @dmakovec We also provide an official Proton Mail onion site for use with the Tor network for those seeking anonymity.

It’s also important to differentiate that VPN is not classified as a communication tool in Switzerland — Proton VPN does not log IPs and there are no existing Swiss laws that can compel us to do so.

I just filled out the @protonprivacy user survey after someone else mentioned it asked about AI and crypto. I made my feelings as a paying user known: please no AI or crypto but if you must, the default should be opt-in.

protonprivacy,
@protonprivacy@mastodon.social avatar

@cmdln Hi there, and thanks for the feedback!

Proton currently uses AI in Proton Sentinel (opt in for subscribers and helps to prevent account takeovers) and any future applications will depend on community interest and demand.

So far loving @protonprivacy and the roll out to the family group is progressing well. Received the survey that apparently is a regular thing for Proton community members, asking some pretty good questions about what I am looking for as a user for them to focus their attention on... And then the inevitable questions about AI came up. 🙄 There are so many things that are missing from the entire suite that means I am hesitant to recommend Proton to others without a bunch of caveats, despite enjoying it overall, and they are instead looking to get some AI functionality added to it.

Please, please don't go down this path, Proton! AI bullshit is part of why I am getting Google out of my life and if it is seen as the exciting new thing by Proton, then it will also be the reason why I get Proton out of my life.

@KellyandRoger Hi there, and thanks for the feedback!

We currently use AI in Proton Sentinel (to help prevent account takeovers even when an attacker has stolen your password). This feature is available for subscribers and off by default requiring manual activation.

Any future applications will depend on community interest and demand.

Uh oh.

@protonprivacy is sending a survey in which they ask if we want them to add in their product.

As someone who uses AI on a daily basis, I beg you, please, guys, don’t.

Nobody needs AI to read or send encrypted emails, to connect to a VPN, to add an event to a calendar, to create and store credentials, to backup or share encrypted files.

Don’t become dumb followers of this sinking world.

@ben Hi there, Proton already uses AI in Proton Sentinel. Future applications would depend on community interest and demand.

Rest assured we would never use your email for any sort of training purposes. Proton is and always will be private by default.

I forgot to include it in @protonprivacy 's survey, but would like to see a mobile keyboard. I am not sure if it fits within the portfolio since most of the apps you offer have some cloud aspect involved, but I think it would be awesome to have a private keyboard with all the capabilities of GBoard or SwiftKey without the spooky corporate hands behind them. I am currently using FlorisBoard which is quite nice, but it is not Gboard. Also having sync would be nice.

Saw some folks on here talking about a survey from , and noting that @protonprivacy was on Mastodon.

A plea went out to make sure to tell Proton in no uncertain terms that dabbling with AI would spell their doom. I agree.

Any service that is about privacy should have NOTHING to do with AI or LLMs... they are the antithesis of privacy.

Dear @protonprivacy

What use does an email informing me I got an email have?

I get one of these about once every other month, and they are not actionable since the link does not link to the email you want me to know about, and I see your email that I got an email when I see all my other emails anyways ...

Can I turn this useless email about email off somewhere?

protonprivacy,
@protonprivacy@mastodon.social avatar

@oliof From your description of the behavior, it appears you have another Proton account associated with the email where you're getting these notifications.

You can find out what account that is through this link: https://account.proton.me/forgot-username

You can turn off Daily Email Notifications in Proton Mail → Messages and composing → General on the Proton Mail web app.

protonprivacy,
@protonprivacy@mastodon.social avatar

@io Hi! Have you tried switching to another VPN server to see if you'll experience the same issue there as well?

You can also try changing protocols (https://protonvpn.com/support/how-to-change-vpn-protocols/) or try turning off NetShield (if it's on) to see if this helps.

If you have Kill Switch turned on, please try turning it off and let us know if you can access the App Store afterwards.
