I real LOVE the fact Mastodon and most of the Fediverse software avoids this all together

I am all for green energy, I wish we could replace our total energy consumption with green alternatives right now. Unfortunately at this point we can’t

Our energy use is only gonna increase and with hypes like AI it’s even worse, and while we need to keep working on switching to alternatives. Let’s not resort to drastic measures like mining & burning even more brown coal

@stux @arjenlubach Excellent video. Glad it had subtitles! I couldn't agree more. Nuclear energy works and is proven safe. I think we also need to accelerate nuclear research to include improved/safer nuclear technologies, e.g. thorium reactors, molten salt reactors, etc. This is definitely an AND issue. We also need to continue building out wind and solar power, improve electrical distribution, and not forget improving battery and other storage technologies. TY for sharing.

Testimony may conclude today in Trump’s #criminal NY #ElectionInterference trial, after 5 weeks & 22 witnesses.

Yesterday the jury was introduced to #RobertCostello, a #Giuliani associate & #lawyer who acted as a β€œback-channel” for #MichaelCohen to #Trump in the summer of 2018.

Yesterday, Costello behaved so atrociously on the witness stand that Juan Merchan cleared the courtroom to admonish him & the defense attorneys. Costello is due back on the stand

@michelemccarthy MSM, being mostly owned by conservatives/billionaires, wants to tip the scales for #Trump regardless of the impact that would have on American democracy. I don't know why the myth of "liberal press" still persists. Most of it is anything but. You have said it very eloquently. #Biden is doing a terrific job in the face of a non-functional House of Representatives and a narrow majority in the Senate. We need to vote every #GOP #GQP person out of office ASAP. #VoteBlue #BidenHarris

@cstross There was even a TV article, 60 Minutes IIRC, on American evangelicals supporting West Bank "settlers" in taking over what was agreed to be Palestinian territory. I think that support made the "settler" situation dramatically worse. #Biden is NOT to blame for far right Israeli government actions. Don't forget that #Trump actively supported Netanyahu and company, making a bad situation much worse.

@Lassielmr @cstross While Biden may have been slow in responding to the aggression against Palestinians, he did NOT start it. He has slowed down arms shipments and is working hard to provide humanitarian relief (floating pier). He and Blinken are trying to get Netanyahu to change course, but that hasn't gone well yet. Do you honestly believe that Trump will be better? I don't. Bashing Biden serves RW interests, and Putin's interests more than help Palestinians. My 2 cents.

I stare at the mirror before me. This isn't my first performance but I haven't been on in over a month and I feel rusty. The lines in my face seem exaggerated in this stupid mirror but I know it's just who I am. I'm not as young as I once was, I think to myself laughing.

Someone outside the door knocks softly. They need to alert me but don't want to disturb my process, I think laughing.

"Come in," I say to the mirror loud enough for the person on the other side of the door to hear, I hope. My reflection looks angry as I yell and I remind myself to relax my face if I have to speak loudly on stage.

A small boy, no more than twelve enters the room. He is dressed for the harsh cold of the winter streets, heavy layers of what look to be rotting and discarding cloth have been wrapped around his torso and limbs. His dark brown hair appears matted and dingy, shoved haphazardly beneath a hat. The style and form of the hat long ago lost under the crush of time.

I turn to look at the young man and notice he seems to be pale and underfed, his eyes hollow and haunted beneath a heavy brow. He licks his parched lips and fumbles for a boombox from the eighties in an anachronistic move that brings me pause.

Looking at me with a confidence brought by a short life of hardship, the little boy clears his throat and greets me in the high pitch of youth with a perfect victorian accent. I am in Chicago, and this is not a common accent to hear now.

Bowing curtly the young man, in a voice far more formal than warranted the occasion said, "Sir, a message for you,".

Holding the boombox in his tiny hands he held it aloft in a manner befitting a Cameron Crowe film. As he held the machine above his head and pressed play I heard from the box the following statement.

"Alex, you are on in five."

From there, the young man lowered the box and nodding to me again bowed and left the room.

I laughed, remembering the silly rider request and found myself more impressed with this theater than I had at first realized.

The "Three Body Problem" on Netflix on it's own is bad, but once you compare it to the book, it's much much worse.

The ONLY really good book to movie adaptation I have ever seen was "Silence of the lambs". It more or less just turned the book into a script. The most accurate adaptation I've seen to this day.

@Mrfunkedude This is a books to TV series adaptation, but my favorite is what became "The Expanse" series. Unfortunately, they ended it earlier than the books, but they did a great job of bringing in the back stories that permeate the books and short stories that form the written series. Second is probably Game of Thrones...
