we are house-sitting for the in-laws, and they have amazon prime logged in on their TV. finally trying out #TheExpanse! watched ep1 last night and excited to get through more of it this weekend.
i might be able to get the account password from mother-in-law, but i really don’t want to get my own subscription or support amazon in general… is there another way to watch without uh, sailing the seven seas?

Seriously, it's not good Trek to do a hard prequel of a 60 year old show. The appeal of SNW was to do a hard and modern fork.
Now, as the show goes on, five great female characters (Una, La'an, Ortegas, Chapel, Uhura) are going to be pushed out by five male characters from 60 years ago, rebooted only 10 yrs ago. All while normie trek fans eat it up.
I dunno who needs to know this, but in Canada, at least, AppleTV is selling the entires series of both The Expanse and Battlestar Galactica for $25 each. Last week #TheExpanse box set was $60. This may mean I never subscribe to Prime Video again. #RememberTheCant
i tooted out yesterday an off-hand comment about how i was enjoying #TheExpanse because they actually have to deal with things like g-forces (quite realistic compared to my usual #StarWars-style #SciFi), and it spawned a two-day long multi-branch conversation between at least a dozen people including (but not limited to) Bussard ramjets, fusion reactors, socio-economic analyses of science fiction politics, the list goes on.

Dear plot writers of every single TV show, #TheExpanse for example - PLEASE don’t send characters on a mini mission in a space suit with low oxygen level and then be so damn PREDICTABLE as to have them run out of air due to some random unforeseen situation. I mean for real. It’s worse than female characters throwing up in private and then 😲SURPRISE😲 we learn they’re pregnant..
Soon as we see someone getting into a space suit with low oxygen my wife and I are immediately “she’s gonna run out of air”
Soon as a woman falls to their knees in front of the shitter and starts puking, we’re similarly “she’s pregnant”
More than a little envious that my #SpaceRocks compadres are down in Bordeaux this week, along with Steven Strait (aka Holden from #TheExpanse), who’s taking a trip on the Novespace Air Zero-G plane today, & a crew of fellow astronauts from ESA.

Alle Leute, die ich a) schätze und b) SciFi mögen sagen: #theExpanse ist das Ding. Ich komme da überhaupt nicht rein. 3 Folgen gesehen: Ich kann mir die Leute nicht merken, nicht die Orte, die Raumschiffnahmen, die (derzeit) getrennten Handlungsstränge.
Wird das bald besser, oder schaut man das eher auf Deutsch? Ich habe auf Wikipedia die Handlung nachgelesen und hatte wirklich die Hälfte nicht verstanden.
Mit Komplexität habe ich sonst kein Problem und kann immer noch GoT runterbeten.

Something I've noticed about #TheExpanse is how YOUNG it casts the lower, enlisted and/or conscripted soldiers in the respective #mcrn and #unn navies.
I appreciate it, makes it feel less idealized and more grounded.
