Something I've noticed about #TheExpanse is how YOUNG it casts the lower, enlisted and/or conscripted soldiers in the respective #mcrn and #unn navies.
I appreciate it, makes it feel less idealized and more grounded.
@5ciFiGirl I don't like how a lot of the time, "less idealised" means "edgier", ie no one acts to do anything besides protect their own interests and doesn't have anything positive to say about their lives or the world and doesn't care to change the world to be better.
I stayed away from the expanse for a long time because I thought it was gonna be a gritty show with gritty people doing gritty things in a gritty world but it's not and I appreciate it for that
@5ciFiGirl for instance, #amos in a lesser show wouldn't care about children the way he does, and wouldn't work hard to keep a girls dad from being like him
There is so much hope, and people striving to be better, and to build something better! And also conflicts where all parties feel they are doing what is fundamentally right, from their own perspective!
For the story and people to feel more real, does not take away from any of that... it just makes it even more powerful!!! 😎
@5ciFiGirl yes! I was so afraid going into the show that it wouldn't have anything to latch onto and hope for, or that if it did it would punish the viewer for doing so.
But it doesn't in my view. I like that there's the ability for these people who all feel like what they're doing is right to also interact with each other and shift allegiances and viewpoints and learn more.
I love #AlexKamal and how sweet he is, for example, but he's still a loyal Martian in his own authentic way
