Infosec people: Looking for suggestions on a secure video camera for work.

We're a non-profit barn that wants to set up a camera to monitor the driveway for security of our horses.

NO cloud storage, wifi access, etc. We need the video to be secure due to the nature of our work.

Talk to me about what we need. (I have already looked into the legal stuff, I need equipment recs).

I write a blog article on the #security breakdown of #Microsoft, focus on lost #Azure #cloud keys, not realizing being compromised by state actors for years & infiltrated security team. See list on https://karl-voit.at/cloud/

I need a catchy but not too clickbaity/exaggerated title so that I don't lose potential readers but also express the importance/impact.

Help me brainstorm.

My draft: "The Security of Microsoft Services and Many Windows Hosts Is Compromised" but I'm afraid that is too weak.

Which is, of course, a SCAM. A total and absolute scam.

Is Microsoft's new feature a privacy nightmare?

Microsoft recently announced ‘Recall’, a feature that lets Windows users to search for content across time on their PCs.

According to Microsoft, Recall takes screenshots every five seconds, which are then stored locally.

However, it's unclear if these will be used for model training, cloud backups, or online analysis.

Our developer and privacy expert, Tarquin Wilton-Jones, shares his take with @theregister ⬇️

OK - but the problem is, they're going to lend credence to 's claims that they're "dedicated to /", even though we know that A. it's lip service, and B. secure, private systems are currently not technically possible at all, let alone with MS products.

The proper regulatory response would be "No & we're going to need 3rd party documentation for privacy & security before you launch anything like this again & this goes for the entire industry".

WhatsApp's encryption is vulnerable to "traffic analysis" surveillance that reveals who's talking to whom. This technique is used by governments worldwide, and may be used by Israel to target Palestinians.

Efforts by Meta employees to raise awareness about the issue have been met with internal censorship.

Is it just me, or has Microsoft gone completely crazy? They are implementing spyware that takes screenshots every second and forcing AI integration. Why would anyone willingly purchase this? Anyone with experience in computer or information security knows that it is a bad idea, even if it is locally done. Just don't do it. Yet, here we are, and they are doubling down on this idea. https://arstechnica.com/gadgets/2024/05/microsofts-new-recall-feature-will-record-everything-you-do-on-your-pc/ #privacy #security

Since we’re all onboard with telling off Linux evangelists in this moment, Linux has privacy issues too! If your screen goes to sleep, when you come back you’re greeted by your screen contents - not the Lock Screen for a solid two seconds or so (at least in GNOME Shell, the default desktop environment for many distros).

ok #Windows #FOSS #Security people. Lend me your brains!

My 2TB HDD died. I didn't lose anything too precious but I did lose some stuff I'm annoyed about.

I'm buying myself another HDD (not an SSD) and Ive considered RAID (5 or 10?) but I doubt I'll go with that as I'll need to buy several HDD's

However I'm looking at backup options. I've looked at Macrium but don't know what/where to back up to.

Another HDD? DVD? Blu-Ray? External SSD? Cloud? Hand inscribed binary in Tungsten sheets? XD

Having an AI ("Windows Recall" is enabled by default) that tracks every move you do on your computer and of course has no filter (Microsoft's own FAQ clearly states it will remember every password you type) is idiotic. But Tech bros are frothing at the mouth for anything AI so here we are.
