Seen the rubble, the buildings,
the mothers and the children
And all the men that you murdered,
and then we see how you spin it... https://yewtu.be/watch?v=fgDQyFeBBIo
#Quebec Premier #FrançoisLegault is facing criticism from opposition parties for asking police to dismantle the pro-Palestinian encampment on the #McGillUniversity campus.
Despite the premier's remarks and a recent closed-door meeting between the protesters and the school's administration, the group says it has no plans to leave their encampment.
More scenes from MIT Pro-Palestine encampments at Kresge Oval last evening. Despite counter-protests and disruptions to traffic, the past 24 hours were largely peaceful.
I recommend following The Tech, MIT's student newspaper, for their relentless coverage of events on campus.
25 years ago, the polis would have ben sent in with horses and truncheons. I like to think we have got better than that, but it is a thin line. Just as well Baddenoch, Braverman, Patel and the rest of the party have been persuaded that this would be ‘bad optics’
While this report by @guardian could be improved by refraining from describing deputized, state-sanctioned violence as "anarchy" and playing into the statist "anarchy = violent chaos" trope, this is otherwise good reporting which you won't find anywhere in the NYT these days.
"Pro-#Palestinian protesters chanted “free #Palestine” outside #Auschwitz in Poland, according to footage shared by i24 journalist India Naftali on X Monday and multiple international media reports.
The pro-Palestinian #protest occurred during a march commemorating the victims of the #Holocaust on Holocaust Remembrance Day."
I grew up around a lot of survivors. I remember talking to my step dad's dad one time and you know these folks did not really talk about the holocaust. At all. And when they did it certainly wasn't around the kids.
So anyway, I forget the context of the conversation, but he said to me that "the thing to remember about what happened is that it's your neighbors that turn you in." We maybe talked three times in my life, but that is stamped in my brain.
John Oliver is brilliant. He exposes how ridiculous the NYC mayor and NYPD are. Their "evidence" of how dangerous Columbia student protestors is a joke. It's sad that tax dollars are spent on people like them. #students#protest#columbia https://www.tiktok.com/t/ZTLXN3H2j/
“Interim University President Jeff Ettinger sent a message to #students, faculty and staff just after 7 a.m. outlining the agreement.
It includes an opportunity for #protest organizers to address the Board of Regents next week, and a pledge by the university to ‘advocate to the #Minneapolis City Attorney for lenient remedies for those previously arrested in connection’ with protests on campus.” #freepalestine
Some scenes from the MIT Kresge encampment today. after President Sally Kornbluth sent a campus-wide email threatening to suspend students who didn't vacate by 14:30 ET
We've started a podcast! Should interest activists and researchers in the U.S. and around the world. Mostly convos with organizers and scholars about what, why, how, and what follows. Gregory Pflugfelder had just finished the final class of his career at Columbia. In 28 years at the university, he achieved many accolades as a professor of history who taught a popular course on Japanese monsters – mostly focused on Godzilla and "the role of the monstrous in the cultural imagination."...
Pro-Palestine student protesters are being smeared as puppets of shadowy “outside agitators.” The presence of community members and experienced activists in the protests is nothing to be ashamed of: we need outside agitators to build a better world.
Wouldn't boycotts work better than protests? Boycott the unis that terrorized the protesters. Boycott business/stores with direct links to Israel. Protests don't work, never have. On the other hand, money has a very loud voice. If America spoke with the wallet, change would happen very quickly. Organization is a lot easier now than it was back in the '60s. Organize, disseminate info and wait. And vote, always vote.
