Here's a video of Steve Jobs showcasing a new feature in iTunes... podcasts!
"You could try to sell podcasts but the whole phenomenon is so great - it's free. And I think what we're going to see is an advertising-supported model emerge, just like free radio."
Apparently the term 'podcast' is a portmanteau of 'iPod' and 'broadcasting'. Here, Steve picks the latest episode from the Adam Curry Podcast and is quick to hit the stop button. 😆
Merci.
I didn't realize that Apple was trying to kill iTunes on Windows; As they recently came out with several apps: Apple Music, Apple Devices, Apple TV+, and iCloud for Windows!
They carved iTunes like a turkey and are serving it's remains in a fancy, modern way. I already prefer the Apple Music UI over iTunes which felt so clumsy and antiquated.
I know #itunes or Apple Music has always been a shitshow from a UX perspective, but wtf, don't take away 'search in my library' and just search the entire music catalogue. Also, FFS #Apple - only one woman across these genres, you sure about that. #applesucks#algorithms
This allows creators to own their content by #selfhosting it on the Fediverse while still connecting seamlessly to the typical #Podcast portals like #itunes etc.
However, since it uses ActivityPub, once you follow it, new episodes show up right in your timeline. With the ability to comment as well.
