A little bit of #Crowdsourcing thanks to the tool of @themarkup: Has anyone found other sites, that seem to be also throttled by #Twitter? Any ideas?

Loading links to #Bluesky, #Facebook, #Instagram, and #Substack takes far longer than to other sites. We built a tool so you can check any domain you like…
#Instagram Throttles 404 Media Investigation Into Drug Ads on Instagram, Continues to Let People Advertise Drugs
What I read: "Hey, their money is green too. Don't call us out for taking it!"
These are more or less the same people who want to have a presence on the #fediverse and went (still are?) on a campaign to establish support for federation with #threads. :D
Timeline is a mess, no sorting of any kind so at the mercy of an algorithm.
Search is useless except to find users. No post or hashtag searches.
Lots of people love importing their followers and having a base of people to start from instead of starting from scratch.
No DMs at all.
An identifier groundwork seems there for ActivityPub; on a person's profile it currently shows that they are on Threads.net with a little badge on their profile.
Their content moderation is lackluster is slightly below par from #Instagram
Overall #Meta made a very basic posting app that is has a built-in audience. It has less features than #Mastodon or many other #Fediverse platforms. If they do not have basic features such as DMs, then I can see why the #ActivityPub integration wasn't ready yet.
With the excitement that people seem to have on it I do wonder how long it will last as people again miss that familiarity of #Twitter. I'll maintain an account on Threads to see what progress they make.
I do find it ironic that a lot of people love having people to follow and their followers migrating with them from Instagram, when if they had built up their following or presence on the Fediverse then any new platform on the Fediverse they move to they could easily take their followers and followings with them.
Indeed. In 2023 if your #fediadmin thinks that anything “cool” is gonna come out of #Facebook / #Instagram federating with are either too young or unbelievably naive or outright dumb and may sell you out.
You have been warned.
While it may be inevitable that they co-opt parts of the fediverse, you still have a choice in being a part of this. Demand your admins to approach this with extreme suspicion. Ditto for all other corporations.
I was up late last night and we know how that goes - rabbit holes. This time I was trying to find some ways to make my phone feel a little snappier and possibly eliminate the issue I was having where my recent apps button stops working until I restart the phone. On Android 13 I found that if I changed to gesture based navigation...
A detailed guide on moving your photo feed from Instagram (owned by Facebook/Meta and full of both privacy and moral issues) over to Pixelfed, a federated Instagram like service, with no tracking or advertisements, that's also part of the fediverse, meaning users can follow you from not only pixelfed, but mastodon & others
Meta has long fought Europe's demands that it get people's consent before using their data for targeted ads. Then a Norwegian regulator threatened to ban Meta’s behavioral ads in Norway and pledged to fine the tech giant $100,000 per day unless the company changed its ways.
I'm tired of reading about how #Meta manipulates people through AI and algorithms -- and having these manipulations being pitched as "innovations" by tech media.
Now Meta's biggest PR push is how AI-driven recommendations have resulted in a 24% increase in time spent on #Instagram.
This is just one more reason I've been adamant about building a decentralized alternative to Big Social.
Sure, Meta will arrive on the Fediverse soon with #Barcelona. But I sure as hell refuse to be held hostage by their constant mass manipulation in order to fulfil some arbitrary KPI.
Pixelfed is like #Instagram was 10 years ago: chronological, and tag-based. Organic growth is possible again, thanks to it. Artists like me love that, because it gives us a sense of worth, while IG's recommendation engine (the dreaded "algorithm") picks a few favorites instead only.
auch das #Fediverse ist ein großartiges, soziales Netzwerk, und vor allem frei von Tracking, Monetarisierung, WalledGardens und Firmen, die so ganz andere Ziele haben, als #Bildung und #Schule
As BGR notices, #Instagram is feeling more and more pressure from the Fediverse -- which is why they've recently started adding features that should have been available a decade ago. I'm talking about GIF comments here.
But if BGR thinks Instagram is facing pressure from #Bluesky and #Mastodon, just wait till #Pixelfed finally releases their Android and iOS apps!
#SocialMedia#ContentModeration#Instagram#Meta#Ads: "Instagram limited the reach of a 404 Media investigation into ads for drugs, guns, counterfeit money, hacked credit cards, and other illegal content on the platform within hours of us posting it. Instagram said it did this because the content, which was about Instagram’s content it failed to moderate on its own platform, didn’t follow its “Recommendation Guidelines.” Later that evening, while that post was being throttled, I got an ad for “MDMA,” and Meta’s ad library is still full of illegal content that can be found within seconds.
This means Meta continues to take money from people blatantly advertising drugs on the platform while limiting the reach of reporting about that content moderation failure. Instagram's Recommendation Guidelines limit the reach of posts that "promotes the use of certain regulated products such as tobacco or vaping products, adult products and services, or pharmaceutical drugs.""
"Cox said that Emu can make “really amazing quality images” thanks to “Instagram being the data set that was used to train it” which he described as “one of the great repositories of incredible imagery.”"
This is a great reason for people to switch over to alternatives like #Pixelfed
An artist-run, anti-AI social platform called Cara has grown from 40,000 to 650,000 users in just a week, as artists leave Instagram in their thousands to protest against Meta’s AI policies.
Artists aren’t happy that the social media giant is using public posts on its platforms to train its generative AI systems, with no way to opt out for U.S. users. Meta’s loss is Cara’s gain, but such a jump in users hasn’t come without its challenges. @TechCrunch has more.
"#Instagram potwierdził, że testuje reklamy, których nie można pominąć (po tym, jak zrzuty ekranu tej funkcji zaczęły krążyć w mediach społecznościowych).
Zgodnie z tekstem informacyjnym wyświetlanym w aplikacji Instagram, te nowe przerwy reklamowe będą wyświetlać licznik czasu, który uniemożliwi użytkownikom przeglądanie większej ilości treści w aplikacji, do momentu obejrzenia reklamy."
Just had my first interaction with Meta Services last night. Thought I'd share what I learned.
