Anemia is commonly found in mummified ancient Egyptian children.
A condition where the body lacks enough healthy red blood cells to carry oxygen to the body's tissues, it's not clear if anemia was the cause of their deaths but it likely contributed.
Malnutrition, parasitic infections, and genetic disorders, which still cause anemia today all probably contributed to its common occurrence in ancient Egypt.
18-24 June 2023. This week in science: new findings on how a parasite infection can lead to a pampered lifestyle for ants, a super rare star, and the cause of morning sickness in pregnancy.

Watching #KingOfClones, a #Netflix#documentary (caveat viewer) and less than 11 minutes in, the subject, Dr. #Hwang#Woo-suk says the line that marks the current boundary I know people like #PeterThiel, and governments like the #US and #China, are actively (and very secretively) trying to break: "We cannot simply make #DNA out of a vacuum."
When we can soon do so, be afraid; be very afraid.
It's this kind of technology that will fundamentally alter humanity forever, not #LLM's and #AI alone.
The ending touches on a point related to one many more knowledgeable people than me have pondered: If, as #Christian#theology believes, all #humans are made in #God's image, why would we not eventually become #creators of entire #universes and beings that populate those existences?
Are we only made in God's incomplete image?
If we are truly made in God's image, that would help explain this world and its inexplicable horrors amid wondrous beauty.
Considering that most of the #cells in our #bodies are #bacteria and other #microbes, and how dependent #humans are (and vulnerable to) in so many ways on the existence of these microbes, it's an arrogance born of ignorance that humans believe we're the dominant #organism on #Earth.
We could be wiped out like the #Martians in #WarOfTheWorlds; #SARS-CoV-2 highlights what easy prey we can be for microbes because we're arrogant and ignorant.
I know it's inevitable, as its already well underway, but I'm against using AI to replace #humans in any and all #creative capacities.
I'll just cancel #DisneyPlus for now and wait until all the episodes for #Loki season 2 to be available this fall, then consider rejoining just to binge those two shows. Maybe.
I'm definitely near the end of my road with the MCU.
I no longer think #hurricanes are the most terrifying of #storms; not even close.
Because we #humans have pumped so much #CO2 (and #Methane) into the #atmosphere, we'll be seeing more storms like this, in more places.
"This is not planet #Earth as we found it. This is a new place—a #fire planet we have made, with an atmosphere more conducive to #combustion than at any time in the past 3 million years."
Just read the #mangaI Sold My Life for 10,000 Yen per Year. Enjoyed its bittersweetness. I s'pose living every day as if it’s one of the last days of your life (as long it’s not actually so, unlike in the manga), through which you would (reasonably) prioritize yourself, could be a way to #happiness. Also, while real life is in the way (compelling the protagonist to make the choice to give up his life), #love did prevail (convincing others that Miyagi really exists). You should give it a read!
I shall reiterate, that by “prioritizing yourself” doesn’t mean to ignore everyone but yourself. #Humans are #social animals, and #happiness is contagious, so truly fulfilling a specific person that you choose to care about also fulfills you. To find that someone though would require careful observation; it won’t come as easy as in the fictional stories (as much as we like reading them). I s’pose, though, that maybe calling it love is taking that connection a bit too lightly, sometimes.
Just want to share this gem from 'The Book Of Pslams' by GOD, as dictated to David Javerbaum (@TheTweetOfGod). An excellent collection of divine insights from "above", which I very highly recommend!
Bums me out seeing "favs don't do anything here" messages. C'mon, people. Do you think letting someone know you've seen/read their post has no value? It feels valuable to me (as a frequent star/fav clicker and grateful receiver).
