Getting ready to harvest and plant the Venus Flytrap seedlings. This year I am trying something different and working with live sphagnum moss. The idea is to share the water and help with water retention and PH. I won't be dropping the seeds straight into the moss as it seems that it would overtake the seedlings pretty easily, but trying it as a bedding type thing. The seedling container is a mini-greenhouse with a ventilated dome. #carnivorousplants#mosstodon#florespondence#plants@plants
Massage with oil to coat evenly. Add desired spices. I used garlic salt, nutritional yeast, and some spice blends. 160 degrees for 2 or 2.5 hrs. #kale#garden#humboldt
These pots are also from the "Rays for Days" area (see last post). These are both plants I have never seen used in containers before. Ajuga is usually a ground cover in gardens and I usually see cleome in flower beds. Often mixed with other flowers. The plant behind the ajuga is a verbena.
We have never had good luck with lavender in our yard. It usually doesn't make it through the winter or only holds on for a couple years. I'm hoping I'll have a chance to visit the Ball garden next year and see how this one holds up
This is another 'new to me ' (but clearly not new to many others once I searched for it!) plant. This was growing at the Ball display garden over a long retaining wall. It looks like it is often grown up trellis, but this was spreading along the ground and over the wall. It was unlabeled, but Google image search identifies it as Dolichos lablab, Purple Hyacinth Bean. #garden#gardening#GardensOfBall#bloomscrolling#florespondence@gardening
One section of the Ball display gardens is all containers. Keep in mind that these displays are aimed at growers and are promoting Ball's products and showcasing what's new.
This photo is showing "mixes" that they are promoting that work well together. For example, the red/yellow pot in the center is called Surviving Summer and includes PortoGrande Orange Portulaca, Gisele Red Phlox, Tsavo Compact Yellow Sanvitalia. #GardensOfBall#bloomscrolling#garden#gardening#florespondence@gardening
This huge pergola is showcasing hanging baskets. The front half are Hula spreading begonias and the back half are Easy Wave Petunias and Dichondra Silver Falls. I believe the pots on the ground are impatiens.
These double coneflowers (Echinacea Double Scoop) are certainly eye catchers, but I wonder if they are good for #pollinators. There seemed to be far fewer bees on these than the standard coneflowers.
It has been a full week since we visited the beautiful gardens at Ball Horticulture's headquarters. I have been posting pictures of the gardens every day and am only about 2/3 through!
I am using the hashtag #GardensOfBall on each post that can be used to see the whole series. You can also block that hashtag if you are tired of seeing these!
This picture is from the Circle Garden. I believe everything in these beds are annuals. #garden#gardening@gardening
This is the second year for this dahlia with simple, purple-pink petals and dark brown-purple foliage. This year I've got three plants from last year's one 👍.
