When my #bananas get too ripe - I fry them up in coconut oil & eat with vanilla ice cream. I make fried bananas in a few different ways. This is the easiest/fastest version.
Asher also got his first few licks of ice cream today - he doesn't get much human foods at all(not good for his cat belly).
This is really freaking stupid. These people are manufacturing a controversy, claiming that #Costco is selling "fake bananas" because one of the #bananas they bought was off. Bananas cost about $0.55/lb. It would surely cost significantly more than that to produce a high quality fake banana. And for what? There's no banana shortage. It wouldn't benefit Costco to buy and sell fake bananas. How do people this dumb manage to dress themselves each morning?
I haven't seen any bananas growing on the palms by the Waikato river path this summer. I don't know if the average temperatures have lower, but there's certainly been a lot less rain. Could it be that banana palms need a minimum amount of rain to set fruit?
If nothing groundbreaking happens today I intend to end my #coconutwater#fast after 50 days. 😝️ My wife already prepared some #durian, soaked oats, and #bananas as well as a bit of #papaya from our own trees. 😇 Slowly, slowly. 😅️
We received a monkey banana hat in the mail from @re_kus. We recently learned of the existence of banana hats so this is a most special day. Our sad banana has seen better days but we had to use what was available to model the hat right away. #bananas
Ornamental railings of the Necropolis on Wishart Street in Glasgow. This design always reminds me of half-peeled bananas. I have no idea why one of them is painted red, or who did it.
After much patient waiting and watching, our first rack of red Cuban bananas is ripe! They start out purple, turn green, then back to purple again. Then they show a whole rainbow of red, yellow, and green, and finally go dark reddish orange.
Peels are thin, fruit is golden when backlit. They are huge (at least twice as heavy as your basic mainland grocery-store kind) and very, very flavorful.
Sometimes I go to Market Basket (regional US grocery store) and they have none of some standard produce item. I think that's just how Market Basket rolls. I went yesterday and they were out of bananas. No organic, no conventional, no mini: no bananas. Other times it's been green peppers, zucchini, broccoli, and probably several other things I've long forgotten about

That said, there are reports of a looming global banana shortage, so could be the local beginnings of that:
"The first and most important cause of the banana shortage is #ClimateChange.. resulting in poor harvests across the world.. Experts have estimated that there will be an 85% decrease in global supply from 2020 to 2023" https://globalsupermarketnews.com/banana-shortage-2023
"Industry experts say the price of #bananas globally is very likely to rise due to the impact of #ClimateChange — but some believe paying more for bananas now could mitigate those risks. "
"#Bananas are at risk of a “devastating” disease as extreme heat and volatile rain cycles put the plants under stress, Colombian farmers have warned.
Small-scale producers in the northern Magdalena region who supply bananas to the UK say the impacts of #ClimateChange have increased their costs and hit yields by as much as 50%."
