"About 10% of the particles floating around the stratosphere now come from the aerospace industry, and we don't know if this could impact the climate."
We all know that plastic is directly killing our #wildlife. But did you know that it’s polluting our #atmosphere too?
New research commissioned by #AMCS and #WWFAustralia finally reveals the hidden climate cost of #Australia ’s plastics addiction, and the results are shocking.
In 2020, Australia’s plastics use produced more than 16 million metric tonnes of greenhouse gas emissions (GHG). That’s equivalent to 5.7 million cars on the road every year.
"De-orbiting #SpaceX#rockets are smashing temporary holes in the upper #atmosphere, creating bright blobs of light in the sky. Now, scientists have warned that these 'SpaceX auroras,' which look like glowing red orbs of light, could be causing unrecognized problems — though they are not a threat to the #environment or life on #Earth."

Here is the main practical reason that developed countries have been reluctant to pay up on #ClimateFinance, #LossAndDamage, and generally helping developing countires: we owe a lot.
As in, thousands of dollars for every citizen in developed countries. Every year. Until 2050.
This paper spells it out, by country:
"The #compensation system is based on the idea that the #atmosphere is a #commons, a natural resource for everyone to use equitably and sustainably."
In cased you missed this chart, it shows the predicted increase of #CO2 and #temperature in the #atmosphere (black lines) compared to current observations (red & blue lines).
The prediction was made back in 1982 by ExxonMobil in private documents.
They knew since 1970s that #FossilFuels would lead to #ClimateChange with "dramatic environmental effects before the year 2050.”
More media attention to the prospect that rapidly increasing human activity will drastically alter the space environment. "How could we possibly think that burning trash in our atmosphere 24/7 is going to be fine?"
