Conclusion des scientifiques indépendants du CSNM:
"La #méthanisation des #lisiers comporte le quadruple désavantage de fournir peu de #méthane, de devoir être complémentée par d’autres végétaux ou déchets qui apportent un excès d’ #azote supplémentaire dans les #digestats, donc lors des épandages, d’augmenter les risques de pollution des ressources en eau et de détourner les lisiers de leur fonction d’amendement-engrais."

In a nation where many revere cows, the animals' waste has become an energy resource.

BBC News reports: "Indian cattle produce around three-million tonnes of cow dung a day. ... The government wants more of that dung, and other agriculture waste, to be made into methane."

Because methane is a potent greenhouse gas, the climate is a good reason to replace your gas stove with an induction cooktop. But health risks could be even more motivating. Pollution reaches bedrooms. Asthma and death rates rise. And I bet you don't use your fume hood much.

#Methane emissions from gas flaring being hidden from satellite monitors - https://www.theguardian.com/environment/2024/may/02/methane-emissions-gas-flaring-hidden-satellite-monitors-oil-gas when you think dirty #fossilfuels can't get any more evil, they do...

Reminder: "natural" gas is not a "transition fuel" it is a fossil fuel.

"Natural" gas composition:

> Methane 97% (CH4)
> Ethane 0.919% (C2H6)
> Propane 0.363% (C3H8)
> Butane 0.162% (C4H10)
> Carbon dioxide 0.527% (CO2)
> Oxygen 0-0.08% (O2)
> Nitrogen 0.936% (N2)
> Other noble gases (e.g., He, Ne, Ar, Xe)

Lets call it what it is - methane gas - with a much greater global warming potential than CO2 in the short-term.

I was chilly this morning so I turned my heat up. Seemed like the first time I ran the heat in a while, so I checked my thermostat app: no usage the past 10 days.

I have methane heat and stove (I'd love to replace the stove, but I'm a renter; instead I'll move when I can afford to). When the gas company tells me I was less efficient than my most efficient neighbors, I'm guessing most of them are rarely home, or don't cook much, or have an electric stove.

@Hypx yeah, the grid "can" run on , but it is a rapidly falling source of production, while electricity is the fastest growing source at 44% of EU production.
