@peterdutoit I only saw the deletion & missed your addition at first. I almost think it worked better: 'American consumption grows'.
(Don't even need to blame a country: 'Consumption grows' sums the problem up pretty well IMO.
The Methane text is also in line with the date. So it looks like it is a heading or article category instead of an addition.
Changing the colour might not have done much to improve it.
The brain tends to group things together based on alignment, spacing etc.
(something you learn in media, user interface design etc)
I did the same thing and thought it said general consumption was up.
