Throughout their time at the workshop, millions of #FabricScraps have gotten another chance at a new life as parts of #artworks, tote bags, shirts & more. These products were created by #VụnArt’s nearly 40 #artisans, all living with different forms of #disabilities. The workers come from all walks of life, but, under the roof of Vụn Art, have come together to make a living from their own labor & creativity, like pieces of a tapestry existing to make life more enjoyable.
This is one of two pieces I created for the DIY Show "Uncommon Threads" many years ago. I demonstrated the steps for piecing the 3d roses for the topiary. That was a fun experience!
Available on my Etsy shop. Thank you for boosting artists!
We're well into January and baby, its cold outside in much of the northern hemisphere! What better way to warm up and take the chill out of those frigid fingers than with these snow-themed hand warmers? These reusable hand warmers are not only economical but also eco-friendly, allowing you to save money while reducing your environmental impact. Shop Made Creatively on the Artisans Cooperative Marketplace: https://artisans.coop/products/warm-up-chill-out-set-of-2-handmade-snow-themed-hand-warmers#handmade#artisans#makers#cooperatives
LB: if you buy from Etsy, which sucks and is pretty hostile to the creatives who sell on the site, please consider using https://artisans.coop instead. It’s a co-op in the truest sense of the term, in that the organization is run and governed by the artists on the platform. Spread the word!
Implementation of the Indigenous Languages Act is critical to turning the tide on the continued loss of Indigenous languages in Canada, but that means money must be found to support community efforts to revitalize language, said the first ever Indigenous languages commissioner Ron E. Ignace.
And he says it requires an all-of-government approach, not in a silo under Canadian Heritage.
The craft of knitting Cowichan sweaters is handed down through the generations in First Nations families on Vancouver Island, BC.
Having to sell the sweaters at wholesale prices to shops that mark up the retail cost by hundreds of dollars has led to an initiative called Knit With Purpose to deal direct with buyers and give knitters a fair wage for their time and expertise.
A friendly reminder, these are artisan crafted classes. I write all the slides, make all the graphics, record all the video, edit absolutely everything, add captions, upload it all. Takes about 3 days & 9 years hands-on #gardening experience to make each class.
Getting ready for the Providence Flea tomorrow. It's not a flea market, but a huge outdoor artisan market along the Providence canal on 275 S.Water St, Providence RI
Hey all, I'd just like to share this article from the #IndieSellersGuild about a new bill that just passed in the US, the #COOLOnlineAct. It's extremely relevant to any #artisans on here who sell or intend to sell their #handmade#crafts and wares, especially if you've been affected by #Etsy 's rampant dishonest reseller problem.
The ISG doesn't have a Mastodon established (yet) but I think folks over at @coopartisans might also be interested in sharing this information. Otherwise, uh... just... follow them too, and consider joining! Both organizations are good.
An excerpt from the link:
"Brian Conlan – Deputy Legislative Director from the office of Senator Tammy Baldwin – reached out to us to ask if we would support a new bill – the COOL Online Act. The bill requires products posted online from sellers in the US to display which country they were made in, much like products in US stores display the same “made in” labeling. In other words, a legal requirement for resellers to admit that their products are mass-produced overseas!"
@coopartisans has reached 73% of their funding goal for the end of the month! Will *you, (yes, you!) join the effort to develop an artisan-owned alternative to Etsy and their predatory practices?
