US Official Who Resigned Over Gaza Says Report Absolving Israel 'Patently False'
Stacy Gilbert described reading the report in shock bcz of how it contradicted expert consensus.
She immediately decided to resign.
The report, "among other contentious findings, determined that Israel wasn't restricting the transport or delivery of U.S. humanitarian assistance—an assessment that allowed the Biden administration to continue providing arms to Israel."
"Donald Trump Found Guilty on All Counts in Hush-Money Trial"
"The historic verdict makes him the first ex-president ever convicted of a crime...guilty on all 34 felony counts related to his 2016 hush-money payment."
All of the charges were for the falsification of business records, which stemmed from the payment to suppress stories about alleged extra-marital affairs Trump had in the years before he ran for president.
The far right has thrown a wrench in the old way of doing news.
"They plot dangerous initiatives …sometimes fifty years in advance … to overturn Roe v. Wade, destroy diversity initiatives, & rewrite the Constitution, & then they actually go ahead & do them."
By the time journalists tell readers what the Radical Right has done, it just walks them back through all the steps we didn’t report on.
To anyone (rightly) criticizing the US:
Americans - as individuals - can do the right thing. Any one of these jurors could have hung the jury, gone public, and been set for life as a right-wing media darling. Book deals, speaking circuit, position in a future Trump admin, whatever they wanted. But all 12 put public service over personal gain. #USpol (From David Litt)
Thirty-four to zero
I’m shocked. I’m not shocked that he is guilty. I’m shocked that today is the day he is finally held accountable. I’m shocked that we made it.
“Go on home, get a nice hot bath. Rest up... 15 minutes. Then get your asses back in gear.”
This quote from “All The President’s Men” goes out to all the #journalists I follow for their coverage of the #trial and to @Nonilex and @GottaLaff for their play by play.
Today, the United States reached a monumental milestone that we prosecuted and convicted a former president, proving that - while there is certainly an argument or just a system is not perfect - we are democracy that is proven that NO ONE is above the law.
Tonight, and perhaps for the first time in my entire entire life, I’m proud to be an “American“! 🇺🇸
A group of ordinary citizens plucked from the masses sat in judgment over one who had been and could yet again become the most powerful person on the planet and it returned a conviction.
A momentous victory for the rule of law and the idea that all citizens are equal before the law.
Let's enjoy this moment, a moment most of us have long imagined and hoped for. Forget about appeals and SCOTUS weighing in. Think, instead, how this plays in the egotistical narcissist's brain. How crushing it is, even if he doesn't show it except in his whining. Our brains and hearts have been crushed since 2016; quid pro quo, motherfucker.
Former President Donald J. Trump was found guilty on all 34 counts of falsifying business records in furtherance of crimes, as part of a conspiracy to defraud the American people, to keep damaging information about his candidacy for President hidden during his 2016 campaign.
He was indicted by a grand jury and found guilty by a jury of New York citizens.
His conviction took place through the process of American Rule of Law.
Each page yesterday took him just a little more than a minute, so this will take >30 mins.
Between that & the testimony readbacks, also expected to take >30 mins, there will likely be >1 hour this morning w/the jury in the courtroom, not actively deliberating.
The drawing on the cover of next week's issue of The New Yorker, titled "A Man of #Conviction" & created by the artist John Cuneo, shows Trump’s tiny hands being handcuffed, arms outstretched over his swollen figure, his trademark red tie draped over his belly.
