More and more, I see this re #BlueSky. I am there because of this , with the bulk of my former twit friends having settled there - and I'm grateful that they've coalesced somewhere - but in the Between Times I have come to love THIS place - more interesting, cooler, friendlier, even - and I am more interesting, cooler, and friendlier, even, here. I will not be leaving #Mastodon.
(And ftr I have never encountered the message policing referred to here and cited by others. Thanks, fam!)
I’d like to delete all my tweets en masse. There’s not many. Is there an open source option to do so? These “delete my tweets” platforms all look sketchy to me.
Settings > Privacy and safety Discoverability and contacts
Under manage contacts, I must have let twitter connect to my address book. It has phone and emails of family and friends! I chose the option to "Remove all contacts", but it says it may take awhile.
Content you see
Optional, but here was a list of items twitter thinks I'm interested in. I removed them, one by one.
I checked this morning and "Remove all contacts" completed.
Finding your Twitter Follows in the Fediverse Or elsewhere
In the meantime, I also found a way to export a lot of data about the people I follow so I can attempt to find them on other platforms.
Fedifinder, an app that scans your Twitter follows for fediverse account links, still works! It's added support for Bluesky. Still a lot of missing accounts but this gives me a start.
Hi all! For newcomers to #Mastodon, please make sure that your account has an avatar pic and your bio has something in it if you want people to follow you or approve your follow requests. In my case, since there are people who are visually impaired, I just require a bio.
Sadly, the number of spam and troll accounts have been rising lately and several people I know have locked down their own accounts in defense (me included). Hopefully, things get better soon. #TwitterExodus#TwitterMigration
Many have deleted their Twitter account. Instead I suggest that we keep our accounts active and use our profile pages to direct other users to Mastodon and other platforms. Show those who are still active on the platform where they can go next.
You can see how I have kept my account active by posting news about Twitter and Elon Musk. I also have LinkTree on my profile page which leads here. For anyone who had a large following on Twitter it is an opportunity to bring more people over to Mastodon.
I de-activated my Twitter account today. I had decided to keep it without posting a while back, just in case anyone would try to use my handle to write weird stuff and impersonate me, but I realized there’s no way I’m ever going back to Twitter and posting anything there.
If someone impersonates me, well, since Twitter has become so ridiculous and toxic, I’m sure people will accept that it’s not me talking.
I wasn’t using this account, and hadn’t for something like a year, so, bye « X »!
Some 100 Jewish organization leaders sign a letter accusing Elon Musk of making the social media platform formerly known as #Twitter, a “breeding ground for some of the most dangerous antisemitic discourse in America.” https://www.xouthate.org/
I'm thinking about Mastodon in a wide view, in the world of social media, this feels a little outsider, while at the same time it also feels like it might be the future. So, let's talk about it!
What do you get out of Mastodon?
Why are you here?
How has it compared with your other social media experiences?
What do you see for the future of Mastodon?
What do you want to see?
And basically anything else about it you want to say about Mastodon.
LET'S TALK!
@RickiTarr I’m here because my strongly pro-science and anti-fascist tweets got my @ChemicalEyeGuy#birdsite :birdsite: account with 1,000 followers ‘permanently suspended’ - and without warning - on the day of the #2022election. #Mastodon is where other respected #science tweeters were headed, so I joined the #TwitterExodus and here I am. I like the strong artistic vibe, and the growing #chemistry community, but I’d like to see more journalists and political cartoonists.
I logged onto Twitter for the first time in 5 months. It was interesting, kind of like that old pair of shoes that you forgot about, and when you're cleaning out your closet one day, you find them again. You try them on, and they feel great. You walk around a little bit, reminisce, and then take them off and put them back in your closet.
That was my feel of Twitter. It brought back great memories, but looking at it in perspective, I just outgrew it. #twitter#twitterexodus
@TimBousquet welcome to Mastodon. I gave up the X Twitter cesspool a while back. Mastodon is not Twitter but I have found a thoughtful and engaging community here. It takes some time and effort to find others as there are no algorithms to tell you where to go... #twitterexodus
#Tesla has been found creating zombie biz #Twitter#X accounts thus boosting profit for #X . So use one of your other companies to prop-up your failing business(s). This is nothing new and the $$$ gained by these zombie accounts is minimal, but it does raise eyebrows.
“One Night Cough Syrup” from the 1930s, which contained cannabis, morphine, chloroform, and alcohol! In 1934, the FDA ruled that the claims of the cough syrup's therapeutic properties were misleading, and remaining stock was destroyed.
