I enjoyed Netflix’s #threebodyproblem adaptation a lot. The books (despite their brilliance) are a huge mess to say nothing of some of the problematic aspects. Jin Cheng/Cheng Xin and Thomas Wade are a lot more fleshed out and although many viewers criticised Auggie’s character, she’s still farrrr less annoying than Liu Cixin’s female characters, like Luo Ji’s real and imaginary love interests in the book as well as Ai AA (it’s clear that she’ll replace these characters in the next seasons).
If you can't wait for #Netflix’s new “Three-Body Problem” show, know that #Peacock will soon stream the 30-part Chinese adaptation “Three-Body”! (See Verge article below.)
I’ve watched the first three episodes, and it's a bit of a slow burner. They certainly don't rush things. And about 10 minutes of each ep seem to be opening and end credits, srsly.
Finally got to read Cixin Liu's Three-Body Problem. I understand the hype now, that book is truly remarkable. Imaginative, entertaining, thrilling, thought-provoking. A sci-fi sensation of a decade. Plus Daniel York Loh's narration of the audio book is one of the best I've heard. I'm surprised that the book was able to be published in China, though. I'm ordering part 2 right away ... 😎
Would I recommend Three-Body just to anyone? Probably not. However, if you're patient enough to sit through a few slow patches, you will be highly rewarded.
And watch this before the #Netflix one.
Found this article about David Benioff & Dan Weiss interesting, especially the part about not getting executive producers credit on House of the Dragon, which was essentially free money.
The real meat is of course the upcoming Three Body Problem, and that tidbit about their cancelled #StarWars movie, which at least had the the angle to be totally detached from current characters, movies and TV shows. #GameOfThrones
I hope Netflix does not screw this up, as the Three Body Problem might be the best SciFi show of 2024.

We're inching ever closer to https://www.theverge.com/23761250/netflix-3-body-problem-trailer-release-date's premiere on Netflix, and today, that means another glimpse at the sci-fi adaptation. Whereas the previous trailer focused on the incredibly immersive virtual reality game at the core of the story, the latest clip focuses on something different: the mystery. Basically, a whole bunch of scientists have gone missing, and Benedict Wong's character is trying to figure out what it all means. (The Verge)
I am super excited for this show to premiere, but last I checked we have to wait until March 21 before the series is revealed to the world (& Netflix will allow us to binge watch the entire season! 🕺🏾🕺🏾🕺🏾‼️).
@arstechnica note that there is a 100% successful, excellent Chinese language/English subtitled adaptation of 3 Body Problem made by Tencent that is available for free on YT. The Netflix show might be ok, or it might be a disaster, but if you like the book this is a very nice watch
I've been reading Liu Cixin's "The Three Body Problem" so for #genuary7 and #genuary8 I imagined a loading animation for the game "Three body" that appears in the book. It does simulate physics like gravity, acceleration and such, but I make no claim to scientific accuracy.
Finally watching #ThreeBody. This is really great so far. I'm surprised. It feels like watching X-Files for the very first time back in the day. The writing is pretty good too, following the books fairly faithfully as far as I can tell. I was afraid they would leave out too much of the hard science/philosophy/politics of the original book. It looks really good too, cinematography-wise. CGI, less so. Very dramatic too, not bad acting. I hope it stays good.
I can't help thinking the Netflix three body will suck. The people don't look Chinese. The girl is dressed like a video game character. The cultural revolution stuff looks over the top.
I don't know if I can even watch it. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=5lj99Uz1d50
