This one-woman Indigenous-owned bookstore has put out a call for support to stay in business after a long series of family sicknesses and other struggles. Mastodon, I need your help. I'm looking to relocate to a new instance to start off the new year but there's so many to choose from. What's a good fit for me? I'm a #scottish expat, currently living in #Seattle. I toot about #politics, #music, #poetry, running a #smallbusiness, and the occasional #meme. I am a member of the #lgbtq community, and a proud #trans woman. I have two #cats and a #husband who I love dearly and in very different ways. I tend to post with a heavy dose of #wit &/or #snark.
Y’all gonna hate me for this, but I’m looking forward to Threads federating.
I don’t enjoy Facebook and find Instagram just OK, but those are the platforms of mom and pop businesses. That is how so many tiny fashion boutiques run by one woman reach out to find customers. It’s helping to get the husband and wife team opening a cafe on their savings their first 100 customers and often the next 100 too.
If you’re going to support indie retail shops, you have to work with Facebook and Instagram. If we can pull them into the Fediverse, it opens up opportunities to involve truly small businesses in the Fediverse instead of always being a wall too high for tech challenged merchants to scale.
As previously mentioned, I'm in the market for VPS service. I found one that I think I might like, and it's a bit pricey. But it's also a pretty complete package, such that it would make sense for me to use it for both business purposes and personal purposes, instead of paying for two separate services.
Is there a way to do this that doesn't piss off the IRS? Like could I say that the percentage that I use for business is a business expense, and the percentage that I use for personal is not?
More generally, is there a solution for things like "If I get both my business and personal banking/cell carrier/etc from the same company, I get a nifty discount, but a frustratingly consolidated bill, how can I do this and still expense the business expense part?"
Leaving London in 1 day ❤️
After that my friend will take over deliveries.
Doing my best to clear my shop as much as more before the move, need the funds for projects and living costs these days as I wasn't able to function much in the past months. Everything is half off before my move, hope you find something you like!

Instagram has become unusable for artists and makers selling and promoting their work. My fiance has a small textile business and is getting absolutely crushed by the algorithm, and her circle of small makers are reporting the same. I think she's finally been convinced to try out Mastodon. #meta#instagram#smallbusiness#art#fediverse
Hi friends, I have put a lot of stuff on sale at 50% off to clear space and make room for more new goodies!
I also have mystery bags/bargain bundles which are excellent value for money if you struggle to choose. I always send way more than I should, so you’ll def get A LOT of goodies 😊

I know sooner or later I'm going to have to start doing my tax stuff. I started a #SmallBusiness last year, just a simple LLC centered around watches (as you may know already) and my brother told me that I need to track all of my tools and inventory. Basically, the idea is that "adding" all of this stuff up, my tools and watches for sale outweigh (significantly) money I'm getting in, so I'm technically operating at a loss. Hopefully it isn't too hard to punch that all in when I do taxes, because getting a little extra back would be very handy. I've tried looking around online for information about all this but it's worded in a way my brain just doesn't really comprehend right now. Hopefully I can get that figured out soon!
Also hey, if you need a watch fixed or are looking for a new one let me know. 🧡

Monday marks 20 years since my business became Ltd. In that 20 years we’ve insisted on doing things differently to other #itsupport companies. We’re still going, still profitable, still investing and have no plans to go anywhere. Many of our earliest customers are still with us.
It’s moments like this that remind me that despite how it can sometimes feel, we must be doing something right otherwise we’d never have made it 20 years.
