Which one accepts direct #SEPA bank transfer without need to go through 3rd party, such as #Stripe or, worse, #PayPal? Which one is community friendly. Which one respects donators #privacy?
Completely bewildered by the #VoiceDream subscription announcement. The blog post links to #Stripe for making a subscription payment, but that's not how subscriptions to #iOS apps are usually managed. Meanwhile, I can't see anything in the app itself about an account, #AppStore purchases, or subscriptions. If I pay through Stripe today, am I supposed to assume that at some point, the iOS app will be updated to respect that new subscription?
When using #Liberapay to receive donations, I'm curious what data is shared with #Stripe.
Does Stripe see the username and/or email address of the Liberapay account receiving donations?
I am hoping that Stripe cannot see this information and instead sees the ID number of the account or some other private identifier. I would like to protect my online identity from my bank and other entities that know my real-life legal identity.
I have not created a Stripe account yet, and I am curious about the process and data requirements.
What data is required to create a Stripe account for an individual for the purpose of receiving donations?
When creating a Stripe account, does Stripe require a photo ID for identity verification?
#Privacy is important to me because I'm trans and live in the USA.
Some insane numbers on the #stripe annual letter for 2023.
"Once a change is code-complete, it is evaluated by a battery of around 1.4 million tests. Stripe uses half a million CPU cores to execute more than 6 billion test runs each day."
I'm trying to query the API for customer emails. I want to send an API request, specifying an email, and I want the API to return one thing if I have any customers with that email, and another thing if there are none.
I've been working on this for days, some people say that this isn't possible, the documentation says it is, but their solution doesn't work… Does anyone have any advice?
Figured out a pretty low-effort way to take payments in a Chrome extension - no server required. Don't have to give up an extra 5% to ExtensionPay either 😄
cryptocurrency seems capable of doing one thing well for the average person that we can't seem to accomplish with fiat. simple online money transfer from bank to bank without a middleman like #stripe etc. if we could accomplish this function with crypto but otherwise avoid all the problems with crypto, basically allow the average person to not even know that crypto is involved, it would be a huge win.
I'm hearing people have been able to leave #substack with few interruptions to their payments and reader relationships because the new services also use the payment processor Stripe. That's great but that's also concerning. What if people decide Stripe is evil? Or what if Stripe decides it doesn't want to support certain opinions or writers? Can't we build a decentralized, open protocol #FOSS version of #Stripe, #Patreon, #PayPal etc?
BLIK, Apple Pay, Google Pay, Przelewy24 i kartę? Najlepiej też, żeby swoje opłaty pobierała w formie małej prowizji.
Uprzedzam, że wszelkie opcje #selfhosted nie wchodzą w grę - nie mam z czego utrzymywać serwera.
The elephant in the room in the migration away from #Substack is the payments gateway IMHO
Substack uses #Stripe. Move to WordPress? The payments platform is Stripe. The European platform Kessel.media? Stripe. I haven't seen any alternative, have you? Please share!
Stripe takes more or less a 5% cut per transaction. It's available in many countries but not all. It requires you have some sort of company or legal entity to receive the money. Not criticising it but, are there other options?
Can't get a #Beehiiv account because they prohibit sexual content.
Wrote to #Buttondown and #Ghost to learn what their standards are. However, they both use #Stripe, who has suspended me for adult content.
It's so much harder to talk about sexual fantasy than it is to decry certain skin colors and genders as not human. Even those comments on #Substack's announcement were alternately "eww, porn is gross" and "hang on, let's see what the Nazis have to say."
Someone remind Patrick Collison that Stripe willfully conducts business with and profits from antisemetic, white supremacist, and anti-trans hate groups.
Oh speaking of #wordpress and #selfhost woes, any good payment processing stuff for that?
Was looking at #jetpack but didn't see the 10% fee (on TOP of Stripe, who actually does the work!!). I already got #Stripe, so anything that integrates with that is good.
I also have Paypal and Patreon, but the point is more to have as direct and 'on premise' a form as possible not just send traffic over. Plus fuck paypal
#Stripe canceled my WordPress account when they discovered I write erotica. I lost my subscribers due to their action.
Later, I saw that they brokered the transfer of $7000 in Twitter ad revenue to known white supremacist DC_Draino.
I wrote to ask why they censored consensual sex literature but had no problem enabling bigotry and sedition. Stripe said they'd investigate and get back to me in 15 days with an answer.
It's been 90 business days with no response. I've reminded them five times.
#Stripe only reiterated their boilerplate: "We apologise for not having responded to you earlier. However, as mentioned in the Prohibited and Restricted Businesses here: https://stripe.com/en-gb-ca/legal/restricted-businesses, Adult content is prohibited as per these conditions."
They did not address the fact that they're supporting white supremacy. I looked in their policy, and I couldn't find anything that said they wouldn't do business with bigots.
