They're the mascot for #SharkeyWorld, an instance powered by @Sharkey (cc: @ruud). It's a community of roughly ~120 members, and part of the rapidly growing squad of instances based on this #Misskey fork. #OhHaai
Haai is also the Dutch word for shark, and also is a homophone for a greeting (Hi!).
Special shoutout to our administrator @chikorita157 who has been doing a good job keeping our Sharkey instance (server) running smoothly.
Being a system admin is can seem like a thankless job sometimes, and sometimes it means tracking down minor issues, going over logs, and occasionally dealing with user drama too (I do that for a living, it's not fun).
A friendly reminder that the Fediverse instance (server) is run by a volunteer who does not get paid, does not host ads, and is often paying things out of their own pocket. - All so complete strangers can share their random thoughts, views, beliefs, rants, or sometimes just sh*tpost.
😂 That was odd! When I mentioned @darnell on my #WordPress blog, it pinged my #Flipboard account on my iPhone even though #ActivityPub is not yet activated (I received a push notification, which later revealed nothing 😆).
Important issue, and an interesting discussion has taken place since last year on the #Mastodon side of things. I imagine this issue is also present for #Misskey and most other #Fediverse services, and I wonder if a fix is already in the works or even rolled out for them?

Misskey is Amazing
See on a surface level once you join misskey from another fediverse instance you probably notice two things:
The character limit is higher (it's 3000 btw)
It looks colorful and flashy with all those moving emoji and text.
However it's so much more than that! Misskey has so many features that the level of customization you get from it feels so good!
And you probably wouldn't even know what it can do if you just use the 'basic' stuff!
I'll list the cooler shit:
1)MFM. Basically advanced text formatting. youcandoshitlikethis ... and more!
2)You ever noticed that you can open mutliple windows on the same internet tab? Try it out now! it's great to respond to mutliple posts without having to switch through tabs!
You can favorite notes! This acts like a bookmark for shit you like! best part is, the OP of a note doesn't get notified, so you can keep it completely private!
You can even customize the sidebar! don't like the explore feature being there? well you can remove it and replace it with something else! like favorites or profile icon
Clips is a feature to group notes! it's like favorites where you can gather notes under a group. However you can make multiple of them, name them and make them public! Want people to see a certain collection of notes under one link, well you can do that!
There's also Misskey Play! You can make your own coding scripts and run them natively in misskey! you can design shit like calculators and tools and all
Channels! While there's not much english documentation about them, they seem to act like groups. Potential groups in the fediverse!
Antenna! want to see notes with a certain keyword, like "gaming" or "anime"? Well you can do that with antennas!
You can even save your settings in preferences backup! ever get the problem that whenever you login from a different device, your settings get reset? Well you can solve that problem by saving it! and then you can load those settings on any device!
I know I sound like a marketer and some people don't really care about these features, but I don't mind. These features are so goddamn fun!
Genuinely when I came here I thought it would just be like "Japanese Mastodon" but it actually blows my mind with what you can do here!
Someone should take these features and apply them to macroblogging lmao Also
I implore anyone reading this to try this shit out! if you're from an instance that doesn't have features similar to misskey you don't know what you're missing! Come on, it's a lot of fun!!!

You see, #misskey was born before #fediverse, although implementing compatibility, it keeps own chan soul.
Chans were kind of guestbooks/forums during the early 00s.
Today we have federated chans, reactions quotations, channels, antennas, lots of useful stuff that other software, like mastodon does, can't implement at the same speed of our beloved core developers.
There's no commercial company behind Misskey core development, all the good the community does, it's for the sake 🍶 of the software's evolution itself, and by reflection, for the community. Thanks for joining us!

I don't like this move by #Threads. Limiting who can do #quoteposts pretty much defeats the purpose of quote posts in the first place.
Oh well, I'm confident that #Misskey will not adopt this beyond not allowing blocked users to quote a post by the user blocking them (which I disagree with btw), so this will not affect me thankfully and I can still quote Threads users as long as they haven't blocked me. :seija_coffee:

Ich war auch lange auf der Suche nach einer guten #App für #Misskey und die diversen daraus hervorgegangenen Forks.Mit #Milktea konnte ich mich ebenfalls nie so richtig anfreunden. Inzwischen bin ich aber bei #FDroid auf die #AriaApp gestoßen.Versuche es doch mal mit ihr.Ich kann für mich sagen,dass diese App das Zeug dazu hat,mit großem Abstand mein Favorit für den Zugriff auf #Sharkey zu werden, und ich kann sie nur wärmstens empfehlen.
Wichtig ist zu wissen, dass nach dem ersten Öffnen zunächst nicht nur, wie bei vergleichbaren Apps üblich, das Benutzerkonto mit Aria verknüpft werden muss, sondern auch die gewünschten Timelines (die in der APP "Tabs" heißen) hinzugefügt werden müssen. D.h. diese kommen nicht per Default schon fertig eingerichtet mit.
