Astronomers used JWST to study molecules in a protoplanetary disk in the Orion Nebula to follow the destruction and replenishment of water. Planet-forming disks are places of chaotic activity. Not only do planetesimals slam together to form larger worlds, but it now appears that the process involves the destructive recycling of...
If you look at the Orion constellation there are the distinctive stars forming the belt and sword in the centre. The middle “star” of the sword is actually the Orion Nebula - M42. This is that nebula. One of the brightest it is also the closest star forming region to earth. This is a composite of 290x10s shots stacked from last night #ZWO#SeestarS50#Aberdeenshire#Scotland#Orion#Astro
Shot IC434 (Horsehead) & M42 (Orion) in one frame, 2 sets. The first set is meh, got walking noise and that’s a thing. The second set I’ve fixed it (kinda) but the sky wasn’t clear and shooting with a full moon .. is… interesting. <insert loads of tech nerd stuff here>. But I still kinda managed it in post processing so here we are. #astrophotography#orion#horseheadnebula
Have a listen, tell a friend, & let us know whose wished-for use of Orion is best!
Jordan: Orion O'Neal - Future NBA Superstar, somehow related to Shaq

BoP: O'Rion's -- a sitcom about O'Rion with a theme song based on the O'reilly (not sponsored) jingle
Since we're talking all about the #mythology of the #constellation#Orion this week, I started thinking more about scorpions (one of the ways this "hero" died)
And, I learned about this creature: Pulmonoscorpius -- an extinct scorpion that was about 28" long.
In our most recent #podcast episode we talked about Beta Orionis (Rigel), as well as Alpha Orionis (Betelgeuse), Gamma Orionis (Bellatrix) and Kappa Orionis (Saiph)... but here is a pic & more info on Delta Orionis (Mintaka)!
Neat "zoom-in" on the Horsehead Nebula in the #constellation#Orion (check out our latest #podcast episode for more on the #astronomy of this constellation!)
