Five years ago, the CEO of Razer, which makes gaming gear, laptops, bags and chairs, said the brand would make a toaster. As part of the campaign to get the product made, several Facebook users got tattoos of Razer toasters. Now, there's no toaster and the company says it will not be regularly updating its community due to inappropriate social media comments, including death threats. The Russian republic of Chechnya has banned music that goes above or below a certain tempo. Why do kids love dinosaurs? Science writer and amateur paleontologist Riley Black writes for Atmos about dinomania — her own, and society's, which she traces back to the 1914 animated short "Gertie the Dinosaur." "The fact that they are extinct makes them safe and child-appropriate — the logic goes — and so dinosaurs can do no harm," she writes. "If dinosaurs are so safe, though, why do we spend so much time imagining them chasing us down and eating us?"

I just did a post on #Bluesky pointing out that the #A11y issues that impact screen reader users it’s had since Day One and the message we're getting from their developers is we aren't welcome there. This is particularly interesting as more and more accounts from Twitter, all of which concerned with human rights in some way, are going over there. Blind people may be slowly bweing left in the dark, particularly for info surrounding #BIPOC, #LGBTQIA! and #PopCulture matters. (1/2)
