#Netflix is turning to exploiting South Korean writers and producers instead of negotiating with striking US writers. SK workers have poorer labor protections and earn less residuals, and that appears to be what Netflix is trying to profit from.
As you watch The Days on Netflix and see the technological hubris, remember that this area of Japan is filled with "Tsunami Stones" which warn future generations how close to the sea to build to keep communities safe.
Tesco knocked down a hill to put the four reactors submerged by the tsunami right at sea level. They thought they could master nature, in more ways than one.
Oscar and Tony Award winner #AlanArkin has died at 89. He was also nominated for six Emmy Awards and most recently appeared on the #Netflix series #TheKominskyMethod.
And before the week gets too much further away from us, we have to acknowledge the passing of actor #JulianSands, who died in a hiking accident six months ago, and actor #NicolasCoster, known for his work on soap opera #SantaBarbara and more than 100 film and TV credits, died June 26 at 89. #RIP
Fair warning, I'm watching The Girl I Like Forgot Her Glasses this season to 100% be a hater. Not because of the questionable and disorienting animation decisions either.
This show looks like a cute romance #anime on the surface. But I'm #disabled so unfortunately, I see a lot more here and plan to take notes.
This show is based on a #shounen property, so it's marketed at younger guys. So essentially, this is a romantic power fantasy of a disabled woman — Mei is essentially legally blind — where said woman is dependent on the man to get through a lot of basic life tasks. When you start seeing a lot of that, or have experienced that kind of thing in real life, it quickly becomes almost impossible to enjoy.
There's a thing that happens in a lot of shows in general where someone who is called everything but disabled is considered cute despite their "quirks" and the like too. Think Komi Can't Communicate if you've seen it. Now, imagine if that main character weren't a conventionally attractive girl. Would the show still be a success? In Komi's case, that's part of why so many students flock to her!
This kind of thing was brought up back when #Wednesday first hit #Netflix too. How the behaviors people said were iconic were the kinds of things a lot of autistic kids were bullied for in school. How they're only considered "cool" now because of the conventionally attractive lady doing them.
I've got a feeling I'm going to have a LOT of criticisms about this show so buckle up and get ready to have your ableist mindsets challenged! #TheGirlILikeForgotHerGlasses
New Yorker:
“Orange Is the New Black” Signalled the Rot Inside the Streaming Economy
Beth Dover recalled, “They’re telling us, ‘Oh, we can’t pay you this much, because we’re pinching pennies.’ But then Netflix is telling their shareholders that they’re making more than they’ve ever made.” She added, “We have not been fairly compensated by any stretch of the imagination.”
I watched #Atlas last night on #Netflix recommendation. i.e. J-Lo battles robots in a mech suit
I enjoyed it. Well, I enjoyed it while I also programmed on my second monitor. What I can say is that the plot is quite thin; the contrivances are quite contrived.
But what I saw was a more interesting film of childhood trauma and how it drives us as adults. The acting was critiqued on imdb, but I thought it was subtle, damaged, and the best part of the movie's themes.
Ever since 'Scavengers Reign' moved to #Netflix I keep seeing everywhere posts raving about how mind-bendingly awesome it is, and I couldn't be happier. I really hope Netflix takes note and treats this fantastic #scifi show better than HBO did.
If you're looking for a new (but short) series to watch, I can thoroughly recommend Netflix's A Man in Full (based on a Tom Wolf book);
Jeff Daniels (who I was pretty impressed by here) plays a Trump like character in business meltdown, while a subplot deals with racism & incarceration in Atlanta.
Better still at only six episodes it avoids the mid-series sogginess that blights some streaming offerings.
Netflix Announces That the Terminator Zero Anime Is Scheduled to Premiere Worldwide on August 29, 2024
Netflix has announced that Skydance Animation and Production I.G's Terminator Zero, the anime series based on the Terminator film franchise, is scheduled to premiere worldwide on the service on August 29, 2024.
'Scavengers Reign' is one of the best #SciFi#tv shows I've ever seen. HBO –oops, sorry, 'Max'– killing it is so dumb. I don't trust #Netflix much more in this sense, but if the show can have a second life there then so be it. While season 1 was pretty self-contained, I really want to keep exploring this fascinating world.
"Baby Reindeer" is a massive hit for Netflix, and its creator and star, Richard Gadd, is now grappling with fame, a loss of anonymity, and criticisms that he failed to protect the identity of his alleged stalker. He talked to the Hollywood Reporter about how he became a performer, his early failures, and how he feels about internet sleuths. Have you watched the series? What did you think?
