Here is a Eurasian Wren that's just nabbed a grub. Had to lighten this image up a little cos it was a tad dark in this section of the wood this evening
Looking quite dapper and healthy. For scale, it's about the same size as the fawns right now. (Seriously.) Which is to say, a bit larger than a terrier.
I believe this is a black-tailed jackrabbit, common in northern California.
Seems likely they are more "flighty" in the spring and early summer when the flowers are a bit sparser. But if you're patient you'll eventually come across one feeding calmly.
