Du Bois Data Visualization Society Challenge - Week 5/10: My recreation of Du Bois' poster no. 13, done with D3, Svelte. Added a pattern fill to match the hand-painted look & transitions on load.
Indians are highly satisfied with their democracy, and at the same time show great support for rule by an autocratic 'strong leader'. On one hand they show high approval for a direct democracy, on the other they support rule by technocrats. Here's a look at India's political complexity using 3 scatter plot charts based on Pew's latest survey.
366 lb DL, T'Vondre Sweat, just ran a 5.27 40-Yd. This type of speed is consistent with someone who is nearly 30 lbs lighter than he is. I plotted his 40 time and weight against last years complete list of combine participants. #nfl#nflcombine#dataviz
Good weekend of work. 6x9 set of d4 dice generated numbers translated into 54x3cm red triangles. The 216x1.5cm black triangles are the same d4 numbers set symmetrically over the red pattern. #generativedice#generative#linocut#dataviz#dataart
The #Observable Framework is a new #JavaScript library for building dashboards. It looks super awesome!
Here are the key features:
✅ It enables the building of the dashboard front-end with JS and the use of any other language on the back-end to process the data, such as #Rstats, #Python, #SQL, etc. This is an amazing feature that enables you to bring the beauty and strengths of JS while processing your data with a more friendly framework
(2/3) Key features
✅ It provides a local development server where you can test your code side-by-side with the output
✅ It compiles Markdown, JavaScript, and other sources and static assets
✅ Can be deployed as a static site (did not test yet, but I believe it can be deployed into Github Pages) or deployed directly to Observable
Why do we try to maintain our Local Timeline as on-topic?
There are so many reasons. But one big one is that our Local Timeline is what other folks see when they are checking out if they'd like to join our community or not.
We are a topic-based instance, so when our Local Timeline is all over the place and there's no Data Viz or Art or any Creative process...What are potential community member supposed to make of this?
@kristinHenry I think it means that we are a community who works in data-visualization related fields or who has an interest in data visualization (or artistic productions in various visual mediums). But we also have other interests. I've often wondered if maybe this shouldn't be my instance due to the fact that I don't post on #dataviz exclusively...
This one took a bit of work, but really like the quilting feel of it. Took my earlier #Generative#linocut and added half size stippled black triangles. Rotation of the stippled triangles also set by the roll of a d4. #GenerativeDice#dataart#dataviz
From Samuel Dunn, (c. 1774), centered on the Sun with a notation about its black spots and how they "move from East to West", this is a state of the art depiction of our solar system as best as it was known at the time. Notes six planets and their moons, with Jupiter having 4 (now counted as 95 moons) and Saturn as having 5 (now totaled up to 146 moons).
Experimenting with using a dashboard to provide up-to-date stats and interactive event-level info on the pro-Palestine movement in the U.S. since October 7.
Is this useful to you? If so, what other info or filtering options or the like would be most helpful?
I can't promise anything, just collecting suggestions for now.
Started to work on a new tutorial for deploying a Shiny app on Hugging Face with Docker
So far, I have been able to containerize the shiny-express example and run it locally. The path from here to deployment on Hugging Face should be straightforward, and document the process on the below repo 👇🏼
Our new publication is out in Earth's Future, which compares changes in summer temperatures across the USA between observations and climate model large ensembles using explainable machine learning...
A new study suggests that the Atlantic overturning circulation AMOC “is on tipping course”
"It’s observational data from the South Atlantic which suggest the AMOC is on tipping course. Not the model simulation, which is just there to get a better understanding of which early warning signals work, and why."
