There is a wonderful period in the late 1950's and 60's where science fact and science fiction intermingle as enthusiasm for the space age was gaining momentum.
In this Solar System map (c. 1966) the latest views from the Mariner IV are mixed with a manned vehicle to Mars and views from the surfaces of numerous planets. There's and optimism that made things feel attainable.

#Journalism / Mona Chalabi on storytelling, the power of data, and covering Palestine
Mona Chalabi is a data journalist known for creating insightful visualizations and infographics, often focused on highlighting social issues and marginalization. She recently won a Pulitzer Prize for her reporting. Much of her recent work has been devoted to spreading awareness about the situation in Palestine through data visualizations, using imagery and statistics about casualties, violence, and human impact. Chalabi says she has experienced some loss in followers and visibility for her #Palestine posts, which she attributes to the controversial/sensitive nature of the topic and deeply entrenched biases about Palestinian narratives.
"{viridis} is an R package that presents colour-blind friendly palettes. It improves the graph readability. The advantage of {viridis} is that the palettes are perceptually uniform, easy to print in greyscale and colour-blind friendly. To use the {viridis} in ggplot2 simply ass:
📊 scale_colour_d()
In the slope graphs I generated in this example, I simply added the function above. The image shows four possible {viridis} palettes. #rstats#accessibility#ggplot2#dataviz
