Eka_FOOF_A, Best #SpaceX #Starship blow by blow on the flight is by Scott Manley. Well worth the watch. He speeds through the boring parts, and gives very good commentary. It is most important to know this is a test flight to find possible issues and confirm engineering choices. Rockets are subject to tyranny of the rocket equation. One has to design light but robust. Starship's method of reentry is also new and never tried before.

65dBnoise, LOL! Sorry (not really) to be a party pooper, but are we supposed to cheer for #SpaceX each and every time they test a rocket? Whether it explodes on the launch pad, in mid-air, upon re-entry or upon landing? Have we done so with other tests? Like with NASA's tests, which are paid for directly by the taxpayer?
No, we haven't. So then, wake me up when the tests are done with and a usable rocket can fly and transport cargo and people safely to somewhere.
That's how success will be measured.
ottaross,
ottaross, Here's a peek at the re-entry situation as there becomes enough atmosphere to provide control to the flaps.
tayledras, BREAKING NEWS:
Space debris from SpaceX Dragon capsule crashed on a hiking trail in North Carolina mountains....
I guess this is to be expected.
I guess we're all OK with this now.
Until a Starlink satellite deorbits into a Senator's house or SpaceX launch debris falls into Mar-a-Lago, NYC, or Washington, DC, Americans won't care or do anything about this.
tayledras, For what it's worth, my money is on Elon Musk being responsible for Kessler Syndrome within a decade or less.
https://bigthink.com/starts-with-a-bang/musk-starlink-satellites-kessler-syndrome/
Sure, we won't be able to launch anything anymore, it'll be raining shit for a while, and space will become unusable, but Elon will have made his government-subsidized billions, and people will have "cheap" internet for as long as it lasts.

gimulnautti, (edited ) Why does the SpaceX Dragon capsule look like the ’klan hood? 😮
tg9541, @gimulnautti I feel that you're assuming a lot, essentially you're projecting your own imagination on an organization, a group of people functioning to solve complicated questions regarding risk and knowledge at the limit of normal engineering. This group of people is a poor surface for your psychological projection. A certain mogul maybe is a better surface but that doesn't remove the reality of engineering. That's why your post should tell anyone more about your believes than about SpaceX.
gimulnautti, (edited ) @tg9541 I have no quarrel with your views on the case.
I have presented my expertise, you have presented yours.
Calling mine figments of imagination though, is a way of devaluing the points of human psychology I brought to the table in good faith.
You broke the principle of charity. So in essence, we’re not equals any more in this discourse, so I digress.

jbzfn, 🛰️ There Appears to Be a Huge Problem With SpaceX's Starlink | Futurism
「 Despite eclipsing the total number of all operating satellites in Earth's orbit, Starlink isn't just struggling to cut even. Experts are concerned that trying to provide the entire globe with internet via satellites — instead of expanding coverage with cell towers where needed — could prove difficult, with speeds already beginning to decrease in 2022 」

hanse_mina, The satellite-internet devices are helping Russian fighters in Ukraine and paramilitary forces in Sudan; SpaceX hasn’t shut them off.
Sudanese authorities have contacted #SpaceX and requested help in regulating the use of #Starlink, including by allowing the military to turn off service areas where it was helping the RSF. Starlink never responded to the request, Sudanese officials said.
vik, #SpaceX's market isn't the average city-dweller. It's the people in the rest of the world who, thanks to mobile phones, don't have anyone laying any cable nearby and are not likely to. Now, if I had a 200 tonne payload on #Starship V3 and a history of beaming stuff via #Starlink, know what I'd beam? Space-based solar power. Low altitude SPS from multiple interconnected satellites eliminates the need for geostationary gigastations. A small 1MW LEO one might weigh, oh, I dunno, about 200 tonnes...
tsturm, @vik It's not going to make astronomers any happier about any of this. But 200t to LEO does open up a number of previously-thought-impossible ideas.
vik, @tsturm Let's face it, 200 tonnes is a big space telescope...
0x5DA, spacex talk, poorly summarised
- superheavy to attempt a landing at a virtual tower in IFT-4
- hoping to successfully catch a superheavy before the end of the year
- ship landings will be next year because the flight path would cross population areas
- complete second launch tower @ starbase (R&D) and build a further 2 @ cape (flight)
- produce 6 fullstacks this year and increase starfactory production
- in-orbit refeulling demo next year
0x5DA,
- raptor 3 targeting 280t of thrust (sea level) & 305t (vacuum optimised), no heatshield & integrated cooling
- starship 2, marginally taller to make room for more propellant & thrust and seemingly altered front-fin geometry
- starship 3, an added 30m taller, drastically increasing propellant & thrust. ship gains 3 rVac engines.
(NOTE: starship 1 is pictured without a hot-staging ring)- musk estimates USD$2-3M per-flight
- vague mention of off-shore launch towers
