Toastie, "Filipinos have been in Alaska for 236 years... We are the state’s largest immigrant minority, but there are few records for us to learn from. It’s an uphill battle, trying to share our community’s stories the way we feel is right."

AlaskaWx, Guilty pleasure: not native to Interior Alaska, but I love the smell of the chokecherry trees this time of year. #Alaska #BloomScrolling
mivox, @AlaskaWx Meeee too. I was planning to plant some at my house until I found out they weren’t native. sigh
AK_OK, Good news: Samples taken from people living in the Arctic show lower levels of regulated pollution.
Bad news: The samples showed rising levels of unregulated chemicals.

ai6yr, Wow, didn't realize Alaska had problems with coal seams catching on fire. #wildfires #coal #Alaska https://akfireinfo.com/2024/05/16/winds-bring-life-to-smoldering-coal-seam-fire-northeast-of-healy/
ai6yr, "Coal seam fires, which can smolder underground for years before coming to the surface, pose a threat to firefighters due to the noxious gases they emit and the potential for burned ground below them to collapse. They are virtually impossible to extinguish and carry over from year-to-year smoldering under the snow cover. " #coal #wildfire
AlaskaWx, @ai6yr Yep. Not a major problem (so far) but it happens. At the moment the Popovitch Creek Coal Seam fire accounts for 88 percent of the area burned things haven't really started yet as not much hot dry weather yet: Memorial Day to 4th of July typically the prime time for wildfire starts.
EyeOnAlaska, Our junior Senator, Dan Sullivan (R) Ohio, is a completely useless MAGA tool. BS right-wing trolls spread a story that Denali NPS told construction workers to take down a U.S. Flag. The story is complete BS. #Alaska #DenaliNPS
seachanger, @EyeOnAlaska remarkable he managed to tweet on this outrage without using the words attack or assault, his usual go tos.
EyeOnAlaska, @seachanger Seriously.

An island in the middle of Bottenintnin Lake.
Another photo of Equmen Lake with the snow-frosted mountains in the background.
MicheleV_AK, We went out to the Kenai Wildlife Refuge near Sterling, Alaska today. We call it Skilak for short as most of the lakes, trails, campgrounds, etc. are on Skilak Road within the Refuge. It's about 15 miles from where we live. Started out cloudy and then we had some sun. The lakes were all lovely. #Alaska #SummerInAlaska #KenaiWildlifeRefuge #SkilakRoad
Bottenintnin Lake is the very first lake you come to on Skilak Road inside the Kenai Wildlife Refuge. Snow-frosted mountains surround the lake.
Skilak Lake is HUGE! In this picture, you can see Frying Pan Island where folks like to camp. You can still see remnants of the big fire between the lake and the snow-frosted mountains.
