I don’t know how much longer Mr Kitty will be with us.

Trying to make sense of my identity and personal history in reference to my late dx of ASD is, exhausting.

My #ADHD assessment is coming up in early May. Early indications suggest being medicated will be life changing.

Anyone know of any decent adult #ActuallyAutistic support groups?

It was my psychologist’s suggestion that I join these support groups for a few reasons.

  1. She’s not trained in this area

  2. Get support and understanding from the community itself and

  3. Make connections and friends to alleviate my isolation.

IDK, isolation is good - people not so much.

My 1st year as an undergraduate, the screen in the lecture theatre flickered. This caused my peripheral vestibular dysfunction to flare. I would pass out in lectures. I had to be literally carried out by fellow students.

Whilst lectures were recorded, they were not released until SWOT-Vac, despite my requests & medical docs, essentially making them useless to me.

I received a CP for that subject. Fast forward to it being the 1st subject I was asked to tutor.

My favourite bum photo 😆

I was volunteering in some research projects on semi-captive elephants. One study was investigating stress levels and self directed behaviours. The other was study involving hormone treatment.

We collected poo from the elephants to analyse and obviously we needed to know whose poo was whose!

Cold storage was limited. We often kept it in the freezer next to our own food 💩🌮

Did you know that every elephant tail is unique? Almost like a human fingerprint.

One of the ways we were able to know whose poo was whose was by looking at their tail (and other features like ears. size, colour, tusks etc).

This kept us at a safe distance and so the elephants would not be bothered by us and act more naturally!

If you did want them closer, the easiest way, like with most animals - offer some yummy snacks!

As it happens we are, in my MEd, about to undertake a week focusing on resilience. Much of this particular unit has been very triggering for me. Admittedly, this is in part the impetus for me to this masters to prevent my experience to happen again.

In this aspect resilience is nothing more than the booby prize people with disabilities occasionally receive by simply surviving.

Not living, surviving.

If we lived in a less ableist, capitalist, and hierarchal society, spending less time finding ways to exclude and disenfranchise people and more time finding universal inclusive practices to allow and enhance the potential of everyone, then there wouldn’t be so much for people like me to overcome.
