Seriously heard someone saying they don't listen to many black artists, because they aren't really into rap. Bitch please, feel free to share songs from Black artists from any genre. Here is one of my favorites, if you like this song please check out her other work:

@RickiTarr One of the greatest things America has ever given to the world is “Black” music. Davis, Coltrane, Parker, etc. are worshipped in France, Japan, and pretty much everywhere else in Earth. Where would we be without Redding, Simone, Pickett, or a hundred others. Give me a tiny break. Anyway, this will always be the most beautiful song ever for me.

That Novelty Cup you had to have on vacation, you'll never use it again.

waiting,
@waiting@pnw.zone avatar

@RickiTarr So many novelty coffee cups at the second-hand store. Daughter and I, when she was maybe 4-5, cruised these stores one day to muster a “proper” tea set. What a hodgepodge haul we ended up with, and then we had a fine tea party that afternoon. She’s her own young woman and I’m an old man now, but those cups won’t be going back.

Truly and honestly, I have a great time here, because you all make it great. You boost, you reply, you encourage, and inspire! It is crazy to me that I get to talk to people from all over the world every day. I get to be friends with people I'll probably never actually get to physically meet. I was born into a pre-internet world, and this still feels a little like a miracle to me.

I kind of miss when Bond movies were completely ridiculous. There would be some woman named Iva Wetpussy, and she'd not wear bottoms the whole movie with no explanation. But we need to make this more inclusive, so there also needs to be a man named Colin Allbutts that wears chaps the whole time, and an Ace named Ima Notinterested, who actually gets all the work done.

waiting,
@waiting@pnw.zone avatar

@RickiTarr Ima is an intriguing character possibility. They presents as attractive, gender mysterious, and witty, but just can’t be bothered with that other layer of “nonsense”. An ace icon.

What is a little white lie you were told as a child, that you believed for too long?

I was way too old when I figured out a human couldn't actually get sucked down a drain or flushed down a toliet. I used to cling to my little brothers, and pull them out of the bath any time my Mum would pull to plug.

@Alice @LoganFive This is a sneaky angle on wage theft. Doing two jobs temporarily should get you double wages in a logical, rational, merit-based system. 😆 Anyway, now you have a broadly sought after component to your resume, I would think. Good money people are hard to find.

@RickiTarr Couple folks wearing me out to the boss, their legislators, our sup ct, whoever, about the lazy, stupid people working at a specific courthouse. I legitimately don't understand pride in where you were born or where you live. You had nothing to do with it, and probably your parents didn't either, most people move for economic reasons. At best, I guess, it makes sports more interesting, and at worst, it leads to genocide. If some places seem better than others the reason is usually money, better infrastructure, better schools, which is a whole other rant. Nothing wrong with enjoying the place you are, but feeling superiority about it, is just cringe.

In Japanese folklore the kudan is a yokai with the body of cow and the head of a human. It is born from a cow, but has the ability to speak human language. The kudan's birth is believed to be an omen of a significant event. Soon after they are born they give one or more prophecies and then immediately die, or they die once thier prediction comes true, which it always does. Despite many kudan prophecies being about...

Likewise, to books
@Likewise@beige.party avatar

What books cause a reaction in you? These are 2 that always come to mind when I think of this question.

Still Alice brought actual tears as I read the last few pages. My dad, who had Alzheimer’s, was living with us & I was really frustrated. I read this book at the perfect time, because it brought my perspective back to where it needed to be.

Hannibal made me afraid. I read this in college & I put it on the floor every night after reading, because I didn’t want it next to me while I slept. I love that!

When words on a page can produce real feelings, that is damn good writing.

@Likewise @bookstodon Gave this some thought and came up with Henderson the Rain King by Bellow. Read it when I was a young man with lots of shit I wanted to roll downhill, and this story showed me it was not necessary. Also, The Overstory by Powers. I’ve always dabbled, tbh, in environmental monkeywrenching, but this book took it to a different perspective. The odds are stacked, but we have to risk so much more to survive.
