@StillIRise1963 while I’m old enough to accept I may not live to see it I continue to do the work and have confidence that my children will carry the torch for their children.
Shedding light on the darkness an inch at a time if that’s what it takes to dispel it.
But are we going to narratize our way out of the problem which a narrative created?
Can we end the desire for narrative and just do what we can, while we can, and accept personal and social responsibility, without disempowering overarching externally imposed story adherence and obligation?
@StillIRise1963 Apologies if it wasn’t intended, but when i read “here to” do something (versus a word like “can”), I see narrative implicated. The hour was darkest and the heroes frightened but they marshaled and fought and formed and saved us all.
Externally imposed? Everything. We exist in a system of morality and ‘purpose’ which doesn’t serve us, enforced through tools like shame or scarcity or religion.
And it’s the adherence to the system that got us here. Needing new.
@cowardlylionel Yeah, you're talking about something completely other. It's not what I said. Your definition of "here" is not my definition. And ,let me say this. If YOU have something to say, say it on your own. YOU are ALWAYS free to ask ME what I was talking about before you speak AT ME with condescension.
@StillIRise1963 I do love the way you think as it is hopeful. I wish I could share this trait with you. I am apprehensive at best. I do not think my fellow humans will do what is in their best interest. trump supporters exist and jim jones held a mass suicide and NOBODY decided to not drink the koolaid.
@Ulrich_the_Elder This is true. There will always be those folks. But, most people are actually decent. So, we have to keep trying to pull everyone together so we can move forward. I don't see any other choice. We can't let these selfish fuckwads get away with this.
@dbc3 Trust me, I get it. I've always known that I'd suffer from racism here my entire life. The work has never been about me, but those that come after.
I agree. I am in a bitter old man mood this morning, day 13 of COVID quarantine. I will roll with the punches, always have, and hope somebody I helped along the way can carry the torch.
@StillIRise1963
Thanks. The infuriating part is the whole family has been super cautious for almost 4 years, especially w/respect to me, with 4 identified risk factors. I had visited here twice during c19; once driving, once in private room on Amtrak. Finally broke down and got on a plane. Wore N95 for 15 hrs: limo/airport/plane/airport/plane/airport.
Woman sat down next to me on 2d flight, coughing (no mask). She got sick, spent last half of flight in head. I tested pos 4 days later.
@StillIRise1963
At least I dodged it until there were vaxes and meds. Had i gotten it in the 1st cpl years I would likely have died on a vent in an ICU.
@StillIRise1963
If i had to get it eventually, it actually could not be a better time and place. Here is where I am sequestered. It is an add-on bedroom & bath to my dtr &sil's house. The table by the door is where they can leave me stuff.
I helped lay the flagstones and did other stuff on the driving visit 2 yrs ago. It was all asphalt.
@StillIRise1963
Just a few months after that visit the house next door became available. They bought it with a little help from us to make a VRBO rental until such time as we might opt to sell our house in Illinois (when we can no longer pay the tax!) and move here. On the Amtrak visit I built this ramp and put in gate so they can come and go. They have renovated interior, I'm helping with exterior. It was nothing but gravel. We are putting basins to restore desert foliage.
@StillIRise1963 here are 3 pics of the lot. 1st is a google earh from before they bought.
2d is g-e from after building ramp, covering pool ( saves tons of evaporation), installing 1500 gal storage cistern capturing rainwater from roof, and building the first basin.
3d is my layout of the two basins to be dug today
@StillIRise1963
This is an artists (me) rendition of the adfitional basins and paths to ne constructed this weekend. I already have changes in mind, but this is close. See alt text.
