Honest question for white people that don't consider themselves racist:

White nationalists have been vocal about their attacks on DEI. These are literally the same people that talk about Charlottesville, Jan 6th, and ethnic cleansing.

They've laid out exactly how they plan to destroy DEI.

  1. Make false claims that DEI is about giving unqualified Black people an unfair advantage

  2. Work with racist politicians to use this as a pretext to make all DEI programs illegal.

1/n

shram86,
@shram86@mastodon.gamedev.place avatar

@mekkaokereke @bluGill I certainly do.

However this pivoted from "idiot whites current dogwhistle is DEI" to black genocide which I have no right to comment on.

shram86,
@shram86@mastodon.gamedev.place avatar

@mekkaokereke It genuinely confuses and shocks me that the default isn't to assume that everyone is against this nonsense - and its just a small percentage of bumpkins you don't see.

Even being asked to say, "anti-DEI is stupid" feels childish, because, duh?

I wonder if anybody tried to use FXAA before doing display mapping BUT by still applying and reverting a curve ? 🤔

Aka:
1 - Switch from HDR to SDR
2 - Apply FXAA
3 - Switch back from SDR to HDR
4 - Apply regular post-process stuff

@froyok fascinating thread. I vote for make your own tooling, as if it doesn't exist, someone else would probably use it too (spoken as someone who has written many tools that I doubt anybody used)

#mathematics people:

I feel there has to be a way of training neural networks to recognise the influence of their training data on the output.

This would probably include training a complementary indexing network + database that would then ”reverse-training” resolve and offer at some predetermined accuracy the #copyright-viable sources for each generated #aiart

I need some help though. A proof would show the companies know it can be done, but they just don’t want to.

@gimulnautti considering all of the Metadata that goes into every single pixel this isn't beyond the realm of possibility at all, but it will never happen even if you perfect it. Nobody is going to willingly prove that they plagiarized all of their art.

the care with which you build a world and the gameplay has nothing to do with your specific sub-genre. If your game has a lot to offer, people will play it.

proper randomization and dev time spent on it should be spent elsewhere.

If you're doing a lot of work in C/C++/Rust consider using sccache to cache compilations. It's easy to set up and will save you a lot of time and a huge amount of power.

https://github.com/mozilla/sccache

As an example this is just a couple of hours of work on Firefox, it saved me from re-running the compiler almost 90% of the time.

shram86,
@shram86@mastodon.gamedev.place avatar

@gabrielesvelto this is terrible advice unless you are actively working on Mozilla.

Why would I use a tool explicitly developed by them for their own internal software with my extremely delicate low level, hardware optimized code?

Yuck.

Anyone knowledgeable on coding ( @reidrac ) know about the VDP acid test?

I find it hard to believe many games conform to this standard - an extra call and return per vdp register write at minimum seems absurd.

There are a couple things like this in the technical handbook that don't appear to have actually been implemented in practice, or abandoned in favor of better code.
