So, the #Giants couldn't manage another big come from behind win and lose game to the #Phillies but they take the series 2-1 and stand at 29-17 before facing the #Yankees (37-19) for 3 games at home starting the day after tomorrow.

So, it's not going to get any easier for the Giants any time soon and whoever put the schedule together for the Giants much really had something against them. LOL! 🤦‍♂️

The water heater in my house just started to leak. ☹️

Water was leaking from the top not the bottom. When the liner breaks, it usually leaks from the bottom. So, I'm hoping it's just a leaky hose or valve that has to be fixed. It'll cost about $2.4k if it has to be replaced. 🤷‍♂️

Have an appt for the plumber to come over early tomorrow morning to either fix or replace it.

Wow!!! 🥳

The #Giants come back from 2-6 to score 5 runs in the top of the 8th to win today's game w/the #Pirates 7-6.

The rally was fueled by a 3 run HR by Chapman -- his 3rd HR in 3 days during the series. 👏

Tyler Rogers (RH) got the save.

So, the Giants took the series 2-1 and are now only 1 game below .500 at 25-26. 🙂

Details to follow after I watch the game off of my DVR & study the final box score further.

#Allergies #Sneezing

I do not usually suffer from allergies but something got to me yesterday that had me sneezing all day and forced me to take a couple of allergy pills (twice during the day) which eventually stopped the sneezing but also made me tired & groggy, forcing me into bed early.

Woke up w/o any symptoms, so hopefully the allergen that kicked by butt yesterday has passed on. 🙏

I didn't watch it live and know nothing about the horses in the race but the 150th running of the Kentucky Derby was a 3 way photo finish with a 18-1 long shout -- Mystic Dan -- winning the race by a nose.

The announcer blew the call naming another horse in the lead at the turn before the straight away to the finish & only figured out that Mystic Dan was in the lead until he broke away out in front beyond the turn.

Mystic Dan faded and was lucky to get the win, holding off betting favorites Sierra Leone (3-1) in 2nd and Forever Young (7-1) in 3rd.

Nice to see Winn finally getting some (not a lot but just enough) run support to get his 1st "win" of the season by throwing 6 1-run innings, that run was a HR but it was an excellent outing.

Soler still isn't hitting long balls but he did get 2 hits and a walk and scored a run ahead of an Estrada double. He was also reached 3rd on a Chapman double that scored Lee.

The 3rd run was scored w/2 on and no out after Ahmed hit into a DP but those are all the runs that the Giants need to win after Doval (who was more focused) came in to get the save --- 3 up/down w/one K.

The Giants win the series 2-1 and FWIW, according to the announcers, this was the 1st series win for the Giants in Miami since 2016! 🤷‍♂️

Now let's see how the Giants do vs the $Dbacks starting today.

The Giants lose tonight 4-0 to the Padres but, but for a grand slam HR with 3 on & 2 out in the top of the 1st, it would the score would have been 0-0 at the end of the 9th and would have gone into extra innings. Oh well . . . 🤷‍♂️

I nominate #TomHanks for POTUS based on his performance in the Apple/Sony movie -- "Greyhound" (2024) -- that I just watched in which he plays the commander of a destroyer group tasked to protect a convey of supply ships across the Atlantic from a Nazi U2 submarine "wolfpack" during #WWII.

The screenplay was written (at least in part) by Tom Hanks himself.

It is a very taut & exciting film. Unfortunately, because it is an Apply production, it will probably never be released on DVD (it took me 3 years to find a DVD copy of "Coda" (2021), another Apple production which won the #Oscar for Best Film that year, and the only way to view it is if you have an Apple account or are willing to use "alternative streaming sites" as I did, but, if you have means/will/opportunity, I highly recommend that you watch this film.

3rd movie watched today -- "Gook" (2017) -- an indie film made/directed by Korean American Justin Chon -- which won a Audience Award at Sundance that year.

It's a gritty, "in-your-face" B&W film set on the 1st day of the Rodney King riots in LA in 1992 -- which didn't have much to do w/the plot of the film itself -- which highlights the conflict between the Black & Asian communities pretty much everywhere -- including North Beach when there was still a low income housing project there and in Oakland C-town now -- but is more a story about interpersonal relationships between & within the Korean American & Black communities.

It's a tough watch but IMO it's one of the better recently made Asian American films in recent years.

I just watched American Experience (S36: E1): "The Untold Story of Nazi Sympathizers on American Soil: Nazi Town, USA" on PBS.

The program is nominally about the growth/demise of the German American Bund (Nazi) movement during the 20-30's but, more importantly, it points out how America has long been & still is susceptible to fascist ideology & influence.

"In the 1930's, one of the largest fascist groups [in the US] was the German American Bund [GAB] . . .

They believe in a pure nation. They believe in a strong nation. They believe that government is best when it's organized in a hierarchical way with a powerful dictator at the top . . ."

"The history of the GAB reminds us that fascism is ultra-nationalist. In other words, there is no such thing as foreign fascism. Fascism is always home grown."

The parallels to #MAGA movement & the resurgence of white nationalist groups cannot be ignored.

So, after this weekend's actions, there have been some interesting developments in the #NFC standings for the playoffs.

The #Eagles 35-31 loss to the #Cards, the #Cowboys 20-19 win over the #Lions and the #Niners 27-10 win over the #Commanders cinched the #1 seed for the Niners, again elevated the Cowboys to the 2nd seed & dropped the Eagles to the 5th seed.

The #Rams 26-26 win over the #Giants & the #Steelers 30-23 win over the #Seahawks also cinched a playoff berth for the Rams (currently as the 6th seed, elevated the #Packers who beat the #Vikings 33-10 to the 7th seed and dropped the Seahawks to 8th.

If the Rams beat the Niners next Sunday, it should secure them a 6th seed matchup w/the Lions as opposed to the Cowboys or Eagles if they lose & drop to the 7th seed.

So, next wk's game matters more to the Rams than the Niners & since I don't think the Niners will play or risk (further) injury to their key players, my guess is that the Rams will win that game.

We'll see . . .
