UPDATE: Had a third Model 1 #SegaGenesis I got some time back as part of a bundle. Ugly on the inside, broken P1 controller port, BUT with a shell that was still in great shape.

So, I swapped its top panel onto the newer unit, giving me a fantastic-condition back-up to my childhood (now Frankensteined) Genesis. (Just missing the extension port cover.)

And then a third ugly one thatโ€™ll be there for parts.

In my early days of learning Japanese, our teacher asked us to go home and make hiragana and katakana flash cards.

Deeming index cards too boring, I instead made two "apps" for the Dreamcast VMU to help me practice my characters. ๐Ÿ˜„

Received an awesome gift from an equally awesome person: twelve extra Game Gear cases (which Iโ€™ve been needing) and a CIB copy of Battle Golfer Yui on Mega Drive!

I remember seeing Yui previewed in EGM back in the day and wishing itโ€™d come to North America. It never did, but now I can finally try it.

Very peculiar game with a strange setup, which happened quite a lot in the early days of the Mega Drive.
One of the reasons why I'm so fond of those first couple of years.

With the arrival of Super Metroid, I think my / library might be complete, unless I somehow come across cheap copies of Wild Guns, Ninja Warriors, or Harvest Moon (the latter two of which I used to own, whoops).

I know Iโ€™ve been in a โ€œretro games are great I miss those simpler times we have to go backโ€ mood as of late, but I broke out the Mega Sg to play Columns III and Mega Bomberman with my wife and twins, and we all had a super fun time.

I really wish #MegaDrive had more casual-friendly 4-player games.

It's been a slow, gradual rebuilding of my library, but I've been trying to get anything I buy for reasonable prices, which isn't easy at this point.

I like how it's shaping up, though!

To all of the #RetroGaming people out there who are more knowledgeable than I: do we have a read on the longevity of the chips being used for official modern-era #SegaGenesis / #MegaDrive reproductions and re-releases?

Iโ€™m wondering what the lifespan of them are going to be in comparison to the old-school original releases. (And thinking about stuff like Switch / 3DS carts that can have lifespan issues.)

I have now been reminded that, early in its life, my company once determined that Super Hydlide was a better game than Herzog Zwei. Even as the weirdo Super Hydlide defender that I am, I cannot sanction this buffoonery.

@CatherineFlick Hmm. I've experience the total opposite. Almost all of my gaming circles from Twitter have moved to Bluesky, so my feed is a bunch of people having fun talking about video games and mostly being friendly about it.

I only rarely see talk of follows/likes pop up, except when talking about how someone's socials are doing on each platform.

I still love Mastodon on a technical/usage level, but Bluesky is my "main" at this point.

@CatherineFlick I think part of the bigger problem too is that a lot of communities that used to intermingle on Twitter are now finding separate new homes.

Thereโ€™s no longer a good place to interact with the people you most want to AND also have access to others when you want/need that exposure without trying to be active on numerous different apps.

Ended up that my childhood #SegaGenesis could not be saved, so it had to get a new board. Wound up with a VA6, which I'm happy withโ€”has TMSS sure, but it's also one of the best options for video/audio quality.

After a long life of providing my joy, the original board will now live on up on my wall.

Ordered a JPN copy of Super Ghouls โ€˜n Ghosts that was only $5.71 because its โ€œcondition was difficult.โ€

I figured maybe it wasnโ€™t working and I could bring it back to life with some good cleaning, butโ€ฆ nope. Works instantly.

Front of cart is beautiful, some light discoloration on the back. So win!

Latest #MegaDrive pickup is more for the shelf than it is for playing. I regret having sold off my #SegaGenesis copies of the #PhantasyStar games, and no way am I rebuying the trio for the price it'd now take to do so.

So, much cheaper MD copies at least get #Sega's RPG franchise back in my collection.

Just found out that this existed recently, and quickly snatched up a copy. Really fun (and weird) film for those who have never seen it (and a great soundtrack to boot).
