UPDATE: Had a third Model 1 #SegaGenesis I got some time back as part of a bundle. Ugly on the inside, broken P1 controller port, BUT with a shell that was still in great shape.
So, I swapped its top panel onto the newer unit, giving me a fantastic-condition back-up to my childhood (now Frankensteined) Genesis. (Just missing the extension port cover.)
And then a third ugly one that’ll be there for parts.
My childhood collection of "choose your own adventure" style books.
I F'N LOVED Interplanetary Spy. So much so that I ended up writing and (poorly) drawing my own book. I should really try to track down the three that I'm missing one of these days.
Received an awesome gift from an equally awesome person: twelve extra Game Gear cases (which I’ve been needing) and a CIB copy of Battle Golfer Yui on Mega Drive!
I remember seeing Yui previewed in EGM back in the day and wishing it’d come to North America. It never did, but now I can finally try it.
You can always do a couple of tests and see how they come out.
Again, the software back in the day wasn't really up to snuff for what I wanted to do, but I didn't know any better.
I ended up tossing all my old scans out and restarting the whole thing 5 years later or so. 👀
With the arrival of Super Metroid, I think my #SNES / #SuperFamicom library might be complete, unless I somehow come across cheap copies of Wild Guns, Ninja Warriors, or Harvest Moon (the latter two of which I used to own, whoops).
I know I’ve been in a “retro games are great I miss those simpler times we have to go back” mood as of late, but I broke out the Mega Sg to play Columns III and Mega Bomberman with my wife and twins, and we all had a super fun time.
I really wish #MegaDrive had more casual-friendly 4-player games.
@mollipen
I think a few sport games like NHL, Madden were also for 4 players and NBA Jam. Idk how old your kids are and if you are into fighting games, but Ultimate Mortal Kombat 3 as well.
You can also have fun with 2 player games and changing after each level or something like that. Then there would be more choice.
@mollipen Wow, this is quite a collection. And I see you don't confine it entirely just to SEGA too. I see those PSP games in there. Persona 3 Portable especially was a wonderful game.
Sort of looks like you have just about every worthwhile Geneses/Megadrive game made though. Kudos.
To all of the #RetroGaming people out there who are more knowledgeable than I: do we have a read on the longevity of the chips being used for official modern-era #SegaGenesis / #MegaDrive reproductions and re-releases?
I’m wondering what the lifespan of them are going to be in comparison to the old-school original releases. (And thinking about stuff like Switch / 3DS carts that can have lifespan issues.)
I have now been reminded that, early in its life, my company once determined that Super Hydlide was a better game than Herzog Zwei. Even as the weirdo Super Hydlide defender that I am, I cannot sanction this buffoonery.
Also beating out the groundbreaking #SegaGenesis title score-wise? J.J. & Jeff.
Ended up that my childhood #SegaGenesis could not be saved, so it had to get a new board. Wound up with a VA6, which I'm happy with—has TMSS sure, but it's also one of the best options for video/audio quality.
After a long life of providing my joy, the original board will now live on up on my wall.
