Holy wow, Dot and Bubble. I don't know that the previous iterations of the show - or any show for a family audience - would have been as bold. This one is absolutely not holding back. #doctorwho
In June 1999, Larry Page said this about his ambitions for Google: "We think we can make search a lot better than it is now. To do the best job, it requires artificial intelligence. The search engine must understand the question being asked, and understand everything on the Web."
Say what you will about Google, but its goal has always been to have AI running google.com. Except that today's AI doesn't "understand" anything; it's just very good at parroting human words.
> In their rush to cram in “AI” “features”, it seems to me that many companies don’t actually understand why people use their products
Manton’s drive to add “AI” features to micro.blog is related to this. He doesn’t seem to get that a decent-sized portion of his customer base are creative industry types threatened by OpenAI’s actions or people who thought micro.blog would be a safe haven during a relentless AI Bubble
@baldur I am one that has cancelled my subscription over this. For me and for others I’ve chatted with, it’s not the inclusion of AI that’s the big issue here. It’s the deference to OpenAI over SJ. A couple of similar takes in the past already had me on the fence about leaving. This only solidified it.
@mergesort This looks interesting. Planning to do highlights? I guess this has it’s own sync backend and not iCloud? Also noticed this in the App Store image. I guess that should be iPad?
@rysiek Thanks for pointing to this thread and WTF. We really do need a strong Mastodon alternative. GTS has been on my watch list for a long time, along with https://github.com/jointakahe/takahe . Really wanted Takahe to make it since it’s the only one that supports multiple domains. Development has really slowed for it however.
