@zachklipp I contend that their choice to remove "don't be evil" from their code of conduct is literally the most immoral act a company has ever committed.

Murder and war are bad - of course - but a lot of folks doing that believe they're doing it for good reasons. There's NO world in which removing "Don't be evil" from your code of conduct is NOT an unequivocally immoral act.

Something that I've noticed in Candela Obscura & other recent games is the decision to NOT include character sheets in the book, and instead just link you to the web-site.

THIS IS A TERRIBLE IDEA.

I have games that are over 30yrs old in my bookshelf. Do you really think your web site is going to still be around in that much time? Many of my books link to sites that no longer exist, or downloads that no longer exist.

I read a recent TTRPG that was so filled with sexism and misogyny that i was disgusted.

Apparently we still need to be teaching men that women don't exist just to be sex objects, "whores", or objects that need protecting.

This blog post attempts to provide some concrete examples, for the gents who still don't get it. It points out normalized behaviors and attitudes that should be long dead.

The next time you need a respected leader, or hero of days past. Name them Nex. Make them nonbinary.

@Taskerland commented that my #Dragonbane flow-chart looked "Fiendish". They're not wrong, and I wanted to talk about that. More specifically about the hidden complexity in games & how designers need to think about things differently than players.

Here's a cleaned up version. Don't worry about reading the individual nodes, they're not important to this discussion.

Side note: I'd love to make these for your unreleased game in exchange for money. 😉

Just got a PDF from a kickstarter game i backed. All the illustrations are AI generated and all slightly off in the way so many are.

I kinda hate it.

I get that most small TTRPGs are made by folks who can't afford to hire an illustrator. I don't have a moral issue with that scenario since no-one was going to get paid to draw anyway.

HOWEVER,
You still need to maintain a consistent visual style, and no-one wants to see weird-ass AI ...weirdness.

Conclusive "proof" that #Autism & #ADHD are significant disabilities, from an unlikely source.

If you wanted to play an average #AudHD character in GURPS you'd have to take the following Disadvantages: "Absent-indedness", "Partial Amnesia", "Confused", "Gullibility", "Honesty", "Light Sleeper", "Klutz", "Social Stigma" and optionally "No Sense of Humor", and / or "Cannot Speak"

On the upside, you'll get 70-115 points to spent on Advantages!

Seeing how radically differently people approach #SoloRPG is also insightful in that it gives us a clue as to why some people find so much more enjoyment with solo play AND an frustrations in group plays

We don't just enjoy different types of games (trad vs narrative vs whatever) and settings. We also want to interact with our games in different ways at different speeds. There will always be some degree of "impedance mismatch" when playing with others.

Just hit print on the Daggerheart open beta playtest material.

I re-watched a video of someone doing a simple hand saddle-stitch on a huge stack of printer paper. As long as you have a way to make the holes for the thread to go through, it's not a big deal. So... 🤷‍♀️ I guess I'm going to be doing my first saddle-stitch binding soon‡.

note: i added a custom front page with the logo, so that's why it may not match yours.

‡ this is going to take forever to print.

I’m in the ambulance because we need to spend time acclimatizing the cat to it. I brought the stuff out to work on character, archetypes, but mowing took all my energy now I’m just laying here staring at the ceiling.

I brought the cat and me back inside but that somehow made me more tired, so i laid on the couch, and the dog played “little spoon” and i think i fell asleep but my breathing was too fast and then i remembered i had no #ADHD meds because the pharmacy has none to give me, and being ducking tired on days with no drugs is normal, but it took like 15 minutes to be able to open my eyes and yes my brain is like this but finally i was able to take a picture of the adorability beside me and…

I flowcharted all the stuff related to a player rolling a check (attacking / defending / whatever) in #DragonBane

It looks complicated but I swear to you that this is nothing compared to D&D and most other "trad" games.

After that long 🧵 about flow-charts I realized that after having recently consolidated & cleaned up all the rules for MY game, it was actually in a state where it was ready for this treatment.

I'm not done & it's already significantly improved one rule.

Looking for info & gossip re current landscape for TTRPG creators:

Bunch of "larger" publishers like @mcg seem to have turned to & stayed there (kickstarter tools suck(ed) so it makes sense).

got some interest when it re-launched(?) & seemed great as a backer but I almost NEVER hear about anything launched there.

Feels like Most folks are wandering back to .

Can anyone explain or shed any light on what the deal with any of this is?

I've been working on my game for a while now. I've learned a LOT along the way, & I obviously like sharing & discussing game design.

So, I put together a 7000 word blog post with the high level things I've learned that will probably apply to anyone trying to design a Tabletop RPG.

The experienced game design folks hopefully already know this stuff, but most of us are still figuring it out.

My game's pretty close to public playtestability. That means I need to put together some character Archetypes. In order to do this I've put together an internal worksheet for the creation of classes to make sure I remember to include all the critical bits for each one.

I've never heard anyone talk about using this approach but I find it invaluable. Here's a blog post with lessons learned & an analysis of mine.

Someone posted this on reddit, and I can't stop thinking about it.

For those who don't play Savage Worlds, it uses "exploding dice" so any hit can potentially produce an improbably large amount of damage. So, what's shown in this cartoon IS technically possible.

It seems ridiculous, but it is an absolutely wonderful feature of that game.
