I mean, the so-called "good" Christians like to make that kind of distinction while ignoring the authoritarian perversion associated with the my way or the highway attitude. I think democracy and social welfare are instincts; whereas, religion is clearly artificially dictatorial and authoritarian. What the fuck would god need a throne for to plop down his lazy ass!

At that point, calling it a debate is ridiculous. Okay, this might sound weird, but this is what I'm thinking of today. I'm assuming most of you know the idiom, "Don't look a gift horse in the mouth." I know it's about looking at the horse's teeth to check it's age and health, but in my heart I have an alternate history where it's about The Trojan Horse, which doesn't really even make much sense, but it's still living there rent free.

So, does anyone else do this, make up alternate histories for words or phrases? If you do, I'd love examples!

@Tattered Thanks for these points and contribution to this post. The notion of a "thinking" person is relative. I expected this point to emerge. Then again, atheism is as old as theism, if not older. I daresay atheism is the first impression we all have of nature. And, a lot of people over the centuries thought about it enough to associate atheism with progress and common sense.
