@StillIRise1963 @LinuxAndYarn if the wolves will join up they'd be a huge bonus for the tactical thinking side. Excellent team workers

capnthommo,
@capnthommo@c.im avatar

@StillIRise1963 @LinuxAndYarn I wonder where sharks would stand in this. And yes, I'm sure there must be quite a few woodlandies who'd join in. Fox must hold a bit of a grudge over fox hunting. And I think otters would be a really useful inland waters and coastal strike force. Seal have cause to join in too.

@shoq I can't believe these pics are not biting anti trump satire. But apparently they're genuine. We're finished as a species aren't we - these (insert term of choice) are going to take the rest of us down with them aren't they.

FYI: "Toe the line"

The idiom is toe the line, not tow the line.

The phrase derives from track-and-field events in which athletes are required to place a foot on a starting line and wait for the signal to go. Race officials used to shout “Toe the line!” where now they shout “On your marks!”

Since entering the language, the idiom has developed to mean do what is expected or act according to someone else’s rules or expectations.

I'd like to think our genetics don't define us, and then I'll meet a herding dog, and start thinking, "Well, maybe..."

capnthommo,
@capnthommo@c.im avatar

@RickiTarr you should see my collie if more than just me walks him. Drives him to distraction trying to keep us together and going in what he imagines to be the right direction. He's only ten months so if I fancied a change of lifestyle I'm sure it wouldn't take that much more effort to train him to herd properly.

7 kilometers in 7 days — that’s the distance you walk in an hour, only it took a week for the Russians to get that far into Kharkiv Oblast.

From analysis I have read this week, Russia has lost more than 7,000 soldiers to take strips of forrest, and small settlements.

The invaders have now reached the first of two Ukrainian defensive lines which run east to west, and with the relatively few soldiers and limited armored resources they have committed, they will likely not get much further.

@randahl smacks of the Winter War. A Soviet general afterwards commented, when asked afterwards if it was a success, replied "yes, we won as much ground as was needed to bury our dead".

capnthommo,
@capnthommo@c.im avatar

@nf3xn @wolf @randahl yeah. My, and his, point was that it was a pyrrhic victory. Any more victories like that and they would have been destroyed.

The HoC Public Accounts Comm. has concluded the civil service lack both skills & capacity to property oversee infrastructure projects contributing both to the evident delays & budgeting problems.

Civil servants have become too reliant on outsourced expertise (consultants & the contractors) for evaluation, with the state no longer able to act as an 'intelligent client'.

The Tory attrition and politicisation of the civil service has (and is having) sigficant detrimental impact.

@ChrisMayLA6 I await the civil service being hived of to government friends and acquaintances. At vast cost.

Just talking with my wife who was canvassed earlier by a local election candidate. They can't call into houses flying the national flag due to fear of assault. All this far right galvanisation is due to decades of neoliberal governments turning a blind eye to everything but the growth of business. Now we have angry electorates getting their information from algorithms which are created by exactly those businesses beloved of those neoliberal governments
