1/2 A volunteer's work day: Imagine an atmosphere between Inspector Barnaby and Agatha Raisin And The Quiche Of Death filmed in a French village.
A chocolate cake competition in a small heritage centre.
I was one of the jury members, we had to give school notes for appearance, cutting and taste for 15 tortes & cakes. Masses of visitors, no murder.
But now I'm knackered and heavy, very heavy. I actually wanted to eat pizza tonight, no way ...
Volunteering is a very hard work. 😋 :blobcatcoffee: 🍰

@hawksquill @bookstodon I’m reading this now. Actually, an audiobook from my local #library. (Not sure now what brought it to my attention; it was on a holds list for a few months, so popular I guess). My kids were undergrads in Troy and Saratoga & we were always driving the Mass Pike through the Berkshires, so I imagine the land and home tucked away there over the hundreds of years of the story.

Happy with the result. Very hard pattern to read and follow, but I just read it several times until I understood the construction before I started, so then it became easy to follow.

And they are done! My second bonus #FallFinishAlong project, colorblock camp socks from Ozetta with bonus contrast toe. These worsted socks probably won’t fit in my shoes but they’ll work in boots and be good around the house. The Icelandic yarn has an interesting texture. I hope it softens up with a soak. I need to remember these are non-superwash or I’m going to end up with felted baby slippers instead of adult socks ;) #knitting #FiberArts @knitting @fiberarts

Cold front just came through the Grand Marais area and dropped the temps from 80°F to 66°F instantly, and we had a lightning strike with instant thunder. The thunder shook the house! It might have hit a tree in our woods.

Good morning. I can’t decide whether to go to Home Depot or the emergency room. My need for a 230V AC plug says Depot; my wretched, hernia-driven abdomen argues for the ER path. Decisions, decisions.

I have had the summer from hell. And hurricane season isn’t over for 2 months. The universe is punishing me for living in this beet-red horror state of Florida. It’s justified.

This has been a good weekend for finishing #knitting projects. I finally finished my Primavera pullover that I started in November 2021 and set aside for a long time. It's a silk blend yarn, so I don't want to wet block it, but I will give it a spray block soon to smooth things out.

The contrast yarn was a bit more variegated than I had hoped it would be so I'm not sure I love the way it pooled, but otherwise, this was a fun knit. @knitting

It's been a while since I posted about our sweet Charles hound to give an update after he was viciously attacked by an unleashed dog in the neighborhood. Anyway, three weeks and a lot of heartache later he has almost completely recovered. He's back to his silly, frisky, timid self and we're getting him used to taking walks again. Thanks to everyone who cared and offered support. It's been an emotional rollercoaster but the important thing is he's out of the cone and happy.

@AbandonedAmerica Wonderful. Such a happy update. And a big 👎🏻 to those clueless peeps who insist their dog is fine off leash. I’ve always felt this. Walking in the woods and a lone dog appears on the trail …. Ugh. Now with our sweet #rescuedog I’m even more convinced that it’s selfish and inconsiderate.

    THE ANGER I FEEL....

    Khrystyna and Svitlana were singing in the street in Zaporizhzhia an hour before a Russian missile strike on the city, and this video of them was filmed.

    One of them died yesterday at the site of the strike. She was 19 years old. The other girl died in the ICU today. She was 21.

    Deepest condolences to their families.

    Russia must pay.
