I’m still working on finishing my first pair of Laura Nelkin’s Larch Peds (yes, still…). But in the meantime, she has released on update with the very feature I decided I want to incorporate in my next pair of these: an shaped arch support band! https://www.instagram.com/p/C7CUsutrVF1/

Apparently in #perimenopause the question of “am I having my period today” does not have a deterministic answer. Sweet. 🙄

When you get out of control with organization even though you know it will only last a short time and soon you will have another abandoned tool sadly languishing. Exhibit: Notion workspace that initially had just Stash in it and now has become my full-blown mini-personal-Ravelry-esque repository of knitting data. @knitting (remove group in reply)

Just talked to a woman who wants a referral to an open role at my company. I’m going to help her out. I also promoted her to look again at roles to see if anything else is a match. I reminded her that women often only apply to roles if they are a 90-100% match for the list requirements but men will apply if they match like 50% of the requirements. Be bolder, I said. Don’t limit yourself.

My doggo didn’t wish me a Happy Dog Mom Day or a Happy Mother’s Day this weekend. But, I did get cuddles.

@thepoliticalcat Some dogs might. But usually the owners responsible for those dogs deserve their prison sentences.

Been hot AF here lately. Like over 30C.

Tenzaru soba is perfect when it's like this. I got some tempura shrimp that's frozen and I can pop in the air fryer, which is perfection.

consumablejoy,
@consumablejoy@wandering.shop avatar

@MsHearthWitch Air fryer tempura shrimp that is actually good?! Genius!

Please enjoy one of our horses (job, not actually mine, but a gal can dream) who's just DELIGHTED by the weather.

(sound on for an extra smile at the end)

A white horse in a bright green field surrounded by trees is happily rolling from side to side on his back. At the end he gets up, prances towards the camera, and does a happy little squeal.

Welp, no mushrooms with dinner... the packet I got delivered today expired two weeks ago. (This is the third time in as many weeks I've had a well-expired item in my grocery delivery. I called head office and told them if it happens again, I'm going somewhere else).

The smoke detector went off 5 times in the 10 min the salmon was in the air fryer.

All in all, not the relaxing experience I'd hoped that cooking in my new place would be.

But the food was good!

@MsHearthWitch I love how traditionally Japanese your service is

consumablejoy,
@consumablejoy@wandering.shop avatar

@MsHearthWitch Do you have a Japanese background, or perhaps a specific attraction to this style of eating?

consumablejoy,
@consumablejoy@wandering.shop avatar

@MsHearthWitch That’s awesome! And a brilliant way to avoid dairy.

consumablejoy,
@consumablejoy@wandering.shop avatar

@MsHearthWitch That is an amazing goal. But you should maybe go first anyway. When I was living there I took a spinning and weaving class even though I could not understand the instructor. It was still great (I had actually learned to weave before, in English, in the US, so that did make it easier).

consumablejoy,
@consumablejoy@wandering.shop avatar

@MsHearthWitch Yeah one super weird thing about Japan was how much cheese there actually is. I feel like it’s their own kind of fusion. Like pasta with fish roe and chicken egg and cheese. Or the new cookies that are super popular with cheeses, like Gorgonzola and honey cookie.

I know many of you avoid IG but I am sharing this link anyway to this designer’s upcoming Ghibli Sweater - this is so terrific! Really looking forward to it. https://www.instagram.com/reel/C4i4OLGtQMi/?igsh=bmNrb2w2NGU0aTIw

I had a little time this morning. Did I do more on the gusset of my second Larch Ped? No, I did not. I did organize my WIP list, which now shows I have 16 WIPs spread across two different locations. (Note this may be an underestimate.) At least 2 are just awaiting finishing. And, I added another one (for a total of 17) by casting on for another pair of those cute slippers I just made for a friend. This one for me. @knitting (remove group in reply)

Harking back to that discussion of “which of these is the shampoo, conditioner, and body wash?” when they are unlabeled in a hotel - i posited that the conditioner was likely to be to the right of the shampoo due to a US-based left to right bias. This hotel proves me wrong. (At least these are labeled)

consumablejoy,
@consumablejoy@wandering.shop avatar

@Heidiknits @MsHearthWitch I brought my own shampoo and conditioner for the week. But if the hotel’s products are good enough sometimes I use them anyway. (For example, the W in Seattle has the exact same products I use at home. I am not, however, staying at the W on this trip).

consumablejoy,
@consumablejoy@wandering.shop avatar

@MsHearthWitch @Heidiknits Ha ha probably no hotels with Olaplex. But the W in Seattle has davines Momo which I use when I’m at home and makes my hair amazing.

Second slipper finished while on the plane for my work trip. (I’m not working today - treating today like a “vacation day” that is spent traveling so I am in the right place for work tomorrow morning.) These bulky slippers were such a fast knit. Still have to stitch the i-cord loops down, duplicate stitch to cover any weird holes, weave in the ends, and wet block into shape. @knitting (remove group in reply)

@consumablejoy@wandering.shop avatar

Slipper 1 is complete. Definitely needs a wet blocking into the final shape. There is a little hole on each side of the instep where I assume I could have avoided it by (something) but I guess I’ll go back and either duplicate or just kind of patch from the inside. Other than that I really like the pattern. Let’s see how the second one goes. Knitting in bulky weight is so amazingly faster than fingering. @knitting (remove group to reply).

The slipper is definitely a pretty fast knit. Took a nap and got back to it. I like the construction method too. You can see where the foot goes in! It’s now ready for the front rise which is almost the end! #knitting #FiberArts @knitting (remove group to reply).

Last workday of vacation, deliberately away from where I could check work emails ;). Mushroom, egg, and cheese crepe and a latte with some sock at the local bookstore cafe. Made it to the gusset on my second Larch Ped sock so am hopeful this will be done “soon-ish”!! Vacation knitting is the best! And next week I have a work trip with hours at the airport so there will be more knitting then! @knitting

Reading this story about how the controversy over knitted dolls showing off their private parts has actually helped this bookstore raise more money for the local air ambulance improved my day 1000% percent (I can’t tell if they are crocheted or knitted - the headline says one, the article says the other)
